What does this do and why would I buy it?
I use this remote so I don't have to fiddle with 4 or 5 others. If I want to switch from playing a game on the Xbox to watching tv, I press one button and all of the inputs are changed, and the directv is turned on. If I want to turn the volume up right after changing the channel I don't have to reach for a separate remote as this controls my home theater, and my directv receiver. For people in the house who are not as tech savvy, they only have to press one button to get everything to work. For people like me who have way too many things hooked up to their tv, this makes switching back and forth between devices super easy.

We have had this device (Logitech-Harmony 650) on our large TV (with stereo sound) for about 4 years, but now is not operating the system very well. If I bought a new one what would I have to do to make a transition from the old one to the new one?
If you have all of your settings stored in My Harmony (which you should - that's how you should have programmed the remote in the first place) - then replacing a super easy. Just hook the remote up to your computer using the USB cable it will come with, and sync it with My Harmony, and all of your settings will move over to the new remote.
