This Garmin n~vi 2589LMT 010-01187-01 GPS features automatic rerouting that offers a new travel course in the event of a deviation from directions given. The voice prompts provide guidance while you keep your eyes on the road for safe navigation.
Will the unit turn on and off with the vehicle ignition?
Yes as long as it is plugged in to the car adapter it will turn on and off along with the car, when ignition is turned off it asks if you wish for it to turn off or can cancel so that it stays on if your only going to be away for short time but has an auto off feature as well I believe in case youre gone longer.

My biggest issue is going around or through large cites.....is this unit good for that? I hate not knowing how to get through large traffic areas. Thanks!
Yes it works very well with with all your navigation needs and has construction warnings, split screen on/off exit ramps and a lot more features, my wife uses ours daily as she travels for her job and as long as you check Garmin Express that you use to install and update the maps periodically you should have no troubles. This is the third gps we've had in the last 5 years, the garmin 2555 stopped working so I bought this one and she likes it so much better and has had no issues with getting around with it.
