Does it have an extra rechargeable battery or can you buy one?
Nope. I think for a new battery you have to unscrew a bunch of parts. The battery works for about 26 minutes which is more than my usual needs.

do I have to hold a button/trigger for it to work
Yes, the button or trigger needs to be held in, but it's really not that big of a deal. I think it's good because you only get about 20 minutes of battery life and you can easily turn off when moving locations to save battery. The trigger is really sensitive too so you barely think you are holding the button in.
