Good microwave but needs better instruction book

This Microwave works really well and has the added feature of a grill for browning. However there aren't good directions for using it, or recipes. I have used it and the food spattered up and it was difficult to clean. I bought this one because I thought the grill feature would be a good thing. But I don't like to use it because of the mess it makes. I might decide I like it after I have more experience using the grill.

Does the kitchen timer work when the microwave is working
It's very useful to use the timer on the microwave to keep track of something else you are timing. So many don't do this and for me, it's a critical feature.
