I need a Fitbit to be able to wear while swimming....check burned calories, HR, etc.... Is there anything on the market like this?
Not sure about Fitbit but the Garmin is waterproof and you can link it to a HR strap, so if they make one that is waterproof you should be good.

I am disabled and walk with a pronounced limp. Will my steps be counted accurately?
It shoukd work just fine as it goes off of an accelrometer which minitors the swing of your arm. Just adjust for your stride and you should be good.
