During the peak of Kevin's power he made hit after hit. He did have an impressive run in the late eighties/ early nineties and The Bodyguard was such a success. Not even close to one of his best but entertaining all the same.

Surprisingly really good

Not a fan of musicals. Just putting that out there. This movie open with a musical number and there a few more within the first forty-five minutes but they become less and less as the movie progresses. I found myself completely caught up in the story. The struggle for success for the two leads. One wants success on his own terms and the other just wants it. Emma Stone really shines here and was awarded with the best actress Oscar. Well deserved. Got the steelbook. Strangely I couldn't pre-order it from the website. Had to go to the store early Tuesday as they opened and picked it up there. Another to the collection. HA!

Great showcase for Cruise and Nicholson

Cruise investigates the death of a Marine at Guantanamo Bay marine base. Nicholson is hardly in this movie but when he is he owns the screen with his scene stealing character. A fun fact is this was first a Broadway play written by a young Aaron Sorkin then adapted from his own play into this movie with the help of director Rob Reiner. Never dull and always compelling. What do I ask of a movie? Never bore me.

I can almost see where this story originated from. When the oldest son of Hanks' character hides under the seat of their car, he discovers his father is an enforcer for the mob. What secrets can be discovered from our parents if we, as children, hid in their cars because of curiosity as they drove away in the middle of the night. If parents attended parties with powerful people and children lived in modest houses and are only told vague ideas of what fathers really do.

The flawed hero played by Newman in an Oscar nominated role shows his journey for fixing the wrongs of a botched medical procedure that was covered up by the hospital and church and his inner struggle to fix his own flaws as an ambulance chasing lawyer. Look for a young Bruce Willis in the final courtroom scene sitting in the back behind Newman.

The story of false accusations and a character study of all the players involved makes this a great showcase for both Newman and Field. All the other actors do great work with the characters adding detail and nuance. Watch for Wilford Brimley to steal the show near the end. Well done
