I enjoy this type of movie and the Best Buy pricing was the selling point for me. I always check the 'specials' bin for DVDs and Blu-rays when I visit my Best Buy Store.

So far I have only convert one of my home movies over to DVD, but the unit did an excellent job.

Can you record only bits and pieces of different vhs tapes to a dvd?
I have several videos of my daughter growing up and at various events/competitions. I want to transfer from vhs to dvd only the parts including her. I would like to prepare one video on dvd for her wedding reception.
Yes. However. I think this can only be done in DVD+R recording mode since you will be swapping out tapes to get to the desire sections. I would suggest having the VHS tapes set to the desired locations before starting to avoid searching in the middle of a recording session. Another suggestion would be to construct a single VHS tape with the various events and then covert that tape over to DVD. Of course that would require a second VHS recorder. Good luck.

Can I recored movies off of my TV
Want to record some of the pay for view movies we buy can this recorder do it?
It is easier if you have a DVR. Then transfer the recording through "out" to DVD/VHS "in". The quality will not be as good, I'm afraid.

What is the difference between DVR620 and DVR620KU
DVR620 is the model # Best Buy sells on-line. DVR620KU is the model # in store. Two different Best Buy employees (in store) told me a converter box is not required for recording to VHS with the
DVR620KU. Are they mistaken? I do not have cable.

I think you at least need an antennae to record any anything from the air, however, as long as it is wired correctly, everything should be OK. Good Luck.

I notice specs always mention "your" movies or "your" VHS tapes. Using this device, can I make DVD copies of commercial VHS tapes, tapes that I have purchased? Or am I limited to converting only non-commercially made VHS tapes? If I cannot convert commercial tapes with this device, is there a converter out there that will without using a computer? Thanks.
Not that I know of. I think only home made VHS tapes or locally recorded tapes can be converted to DVDs.

This may sound dumb, but can I transfer from a VHS playing in this unit to a DVD recording in this unit?
I see nothing in the instruction manual that tells me how to play a VHS tape and record it on to a DVD with this unit alone.
Yes. So long as it is not Copyright protected. Home movies - yes. Comercial VHS tapes - no.
