Slightly challenging for kids

My son really likes this game, he is 8, but he does get stuck at times and slightly discouraged. This leads to him putting the game down for weeks at a time and not wanting to play anymore. The concept is fun and easy enough, but sometimes placing the blocks just right becomes difficult because it's hard to judge the depth they are being placed at. This is his first lego game, so it may just be part of that learning curve, but he does get frustrated and I have to help him, or guide his thought process so he gets where he needs to be. Overall it's a fun game and as a parent, it's fun to watch your kid play and problem solve.

My son uses these daily for gaming. He has no complaints that thinks they are amazing. We on the other hand think they work too well. They cancel out enough of the surrounding noises that our son has no idea how loud he is actually being when he uses them. We are constantly telling him to turn it down so he doesn't talk so loud into the microphone. So if you're buying them for your own gaming, great. If your buying them for someone else in your house, make sure they can control the volume of their voice!

I played the original splatoon on the wii u. It was fun, but this is definitely an approvement. My only gripe with the game is that they don't really explain the power ups or some of the other features in the game that go along with scoring.
If you are a really competitive person, this is probably not the best game. It can be irritating when you get paired with teammates that don't do anything or just choose not to play so they don't have to back out and get temporarily banned. So much of whether you win depends on your teammates and because you can't pick them, it can be frustrating.
You also have to be at a pretty high level to play different modes of the game. I feel like ranked battles should be available right away because then all the newer and lower level players could play together and be at a similar skill level.
I do love the concept of the game, I'm not into the shooting and killing games. It's nice to be able to focus on "painting" the field instead of seeking out other players to "splat".

A lot of fun, but could use some more instructions

Straight out of the box, I really appreciated there was a little diagram of what you plug in where. That was nice, but I really wanted some more in depth instructions. Especially when it came to the joy con controllers. There are these little black pieces you slide on and it makes the joy cons 2 different controllers. BUT they do not explain you have to line up and + and - signs when you slide the adapters on. The first time I tried to slide one on, I slid it on the wrong way, got it stuck and then had to google how to fix it the whole time being worried and paranoid I was going to break something I bought less than an hour ago.
Now as for the actual system. It's fun and a great improvement on everything the wii u was. If you have kids though, I would make it a rule that they cannot dock it themselves. The first thing I noticed my son doing was trying to push the switch down into the dock because he thought it had to "plug in" down there.
We don't use it undocked all that much, but it is really nice to have that option. I really appreciate that the wii came with all the adapters already in the box. We didn't have to buy a bunch of stuff before the switch became usable and practical.
I highly recommend getting the nintendo online subscription if you are a fan of the class nintendo games because it comes with a lot of them and they are always adding more. My husband and I spent about 3 hours playing Super Mario Bros 3 together and the best part was that we were able to save our game!
So overall, I would say that it is fun, but not the most intuitive and if you aren't very "tech savvy" be prepared to google some things or ask someone for help. Judge your kids maturity levels and decide what is appropriate for them in terms of caring for the switch.
