A little involved, but well worth it

Our location is in the Columbia Gorge with a high cliff across the river. Verizon was the only carrier that would work, and only marginally (usually one bar). There was only one place you could sit or stand that would work, and if the weather was bad, you had to stand outside on the deck. If my husband had to make an important call, he would have to drive three miles down the road where his signal would improve enough not to drop the call.
We bought the high-end model of the weBoost because it will work with any cell carrier. Also, we wanted to give it the best possibility to work for us. You need to be able to point the antenna toward a "nearby" cell tower. There are several ways to do this. We ended up using a fairly low tech satellite map that worked great, but you would get more precision using a different technique.
My husband's Verizon signal is now usually four bars, at least two in nasty weather. I was able to get an inexpensive service (Mint) that works on T-Mobile network for me and two of my teenage children, so it will save us money in the long run. We get four bars inside the house. And you can use the phone with a good signal anywhere in the house.
Such a little thing has been a life changer. We wish we had done this a decade ago.
