Fantastic, but a few issues

I think it's amazing that this game can run on the Switch at all. The gameplay is absolutely fantastic and the framerate is always 60 FPS. However, while the fights themselves look amazing, the cutscenes are absolutely terrible in this version. They look like the PS4 graphics, but they're SO pixelated on a TV and I've noticed a lot of brief moments when the audio and cutscenes stopped for maybe half a second before resuming. It really takes you out of the game. The cutscenes from Mortal Kombat 9 on Xbox 360 actually look better than 11 on Switch, which is a little disappointing. But you don't play games for cutscenes, you play them for gameplay and the gameplay here is just as good as on any other platform. And you can take it anywhere.
And there are a lot of microtransactions, which I'm not a fan of.

Spyro's back and he's all scaled up. The original roast master is back. Same sick burns, same smoldering attitude, now all scaled up in stunning HD. Spyro is bringing the heat like never before in the Spyro Reignited Trilogy game collection. Rekindle the fire with remastered versions of the original three games, Spyro the Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage!, and Spyro: Year of the Dragon. Explore the expansive realms, re-encounter the fiery personalities, and relive the adventure in fully remastered glory. Because when there's a realm that needs saving, there's only one dragon to call.

Fun remaster of the original

While this review is being written near the completion of the Spyro 1 remaster - I will say I have very much enjoyed the Reignited Trilogy on Switch. The biggest thing that hit me immediately is how pretty the game and it's environments looked. It's beautiful, the animations and effects are extremely well done and this ends up being one of the best looking games available on on the Switch. The game controls well and I experienced nearly no performance issues outside of loading screen transitions.
The controls have a small learning curve to them if you're not very used to Spyro games, I found the jump arc and gliding to feel a bit "off" after coming from games like Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly. Some of the levels feature very hidden collectibles that require very specific path routes on speed pads paired with jumps to where you are almost GUARANTEED to look it up online to figure it out. (I've encountered this about three times, but you're in no way required to collect 100% of the collectibles or anything.)
When playing the game handheld, the framerate feels very solid. It's not like BoTW where the FPS dips and lags more when playing outside of the dock, however - some fairly obvious resolution drops / downscaling is apparent. It's not enough to be noticeable in a bad way, but if you're someone who is used to high res and is bothered by that sort of thing, just a heads up.
I think the PC version has got to be the definitive way to see this game in it's true graphical prowess. But this port looks and runs wonderfully, I cannot speak for the 2 additional titles included in this trilogy - but so far about 7 hours in, I adore it.
(PS: there is a required Digital Download for Spyro 2 & 3 - it's somewhat substantial so you would want to have a good SD card at the ready.)
