We have iPads in the past, so I can not really say that much has changed over the years as far as the hardware. What I can say though is that it works great and the software is kickass. It is a perfect (and MUCH cheaper) alternative to the iPad Pro, and we are still able to use the Apple Pencil with it which works fantastically.
Just be prepared, AS ALWAYS WITH APPLE, to spend almost double what the cost is after you buy the AppleCare, the screen protector, and a good case. Still worth it though.
