Inflexible and inaccurate

The Ecobee thermostat is one of the worst purchases I’ve made in recent memory (my absolute worst was a terrible sofa but that’s another story).
I started out with an Original Nest thermostat that I installed years ago. It was one that was pre-ordered before NEST even had released it. It worked flawlessly and did everything I wanted it to do but eventually it failed along with my furnace. I would have put a Nest back except my HVAC guy says he removes them because of issues he has and wouldn’t warranty my brand new furnace with one. I didn’t want an argument so searched for something different. It has something to do with the Nest leaching power and back feeding to a circuit board and I wasn’t in a position to argue. I need my warranty.
That said, the Ecobee is orders worse and less flexible than the Nest is and it is a current generation with the latest firmware and simply can’t get the heat right in my house. It is either too hot or too cold and runny longer than necessary. I’ll rip it out eventually I’m sure but for now I’m dealing with it. I have the remote sensors that can go in other rooms but the Ecobee is so inflexible on how you use them that I’m not sure they’re worth the effort.
The main problem point is that they rely in THREE (and only THREE) main temperature set points: HOME, AWAY and SLEEP. If you set a schedule you MUST use those three set points and those three only. In other words, you can set the heat in morning to 69 and then gradually lower it or arbitrarily change it to say 68 or 67. You can only set it to HOME, SLEEP or AWAY. It is ridiculous. With the nest I could set any temperature at any time day or night. To think that this is the state of the art today is outrageous. Granted, I have not liked it to Apple HomeKit and set arbitrary automations but this shouldn’t be necessary.
The three settings rear their ugly head again when dealing with the sensors. You can change when they are active and used for sensing temperature and presences BUT it MUST be one of those three modes. You cannot, for instance, say use the Bedroom sensor only in the morning but turn it off at say 7:30 AM because to do so would mean you can only turn SLEEP mode off at 7:30AM but people get up before then and the temp needs to start rising in HOME mode at 5:30 AM. There is just no way to easily use this thing in a home that has a lot of varying schedules and a desire for granular control.
Another point and perhaps the most important, the temperature on the unit seems inaccurate at times. Before using the other sensors (which I believe use an average for control) the single Ecobee unit seemed to be off by 2 degrees at various times for in inexplicable reason. I’ve verified it by comparing to other temperature sensors which agreed with each other but the Ecobee was the outlier.
With all the various issues, it seems impossible to get an adjustable setting whereas the $15 thermostat I had on the wall prior to that (after my new furnace was installed and the nest was removed) I never though twice about the temp other than manually needing to drop it at night or when away. I have half a mind to go back to it except I spent so much time getting it installed.
Another finer point during installation…don’t make the mistake of thinking the colors of the labels for wires and what you use is interchangeable. Their directions are specific about the colors and despite having mostly duplicates between the colors they are NOT all the same. If you get the colors wrong (green and white in this case) it’ll be more difficult to follow the instructions at the end as they have you relabeling wires such as the C wire and Rh to Rc etc. It is a bit of a mess whereas I believe the Nest just handled it in software.
Bottom line is this thing is a disaster. I really wish I’d known before that Wyze made one and more importantly one with a knob for temperature control as I’d have tried that one first. I wanted the Nest because you can easily adjust the temperature with a turn vs the press screen, scroll, press again. The touchscreen is nowhere near as efficient or simple to use.
Get a Nest if you can and if not look somewhere else still. Skip the Ecobee. It is too much money and a disaster until they address some of the issues. In particular, the restrictions to home and away and sleep modes is unacceptable.

Worth the investment

The best iteration of the Apple TV and worth the extra money for the thread support and Ethernet port. It’s unfortunate the Apple TV just didn’t make the only difference the memory as it would have been more competitive if cheaper with same features.
My only complaint is there are some tvOS features that seem to be less refined than others. In particular, the photos app is lacking. But for watching videos and streaming music it lacks very little.
I’ve yet to see a good competitor and yes it is more money but when spending a lot of time watching movies or TV’s it seems like a small investment. If you’ve ever gone and seen a movie in the theater a few times that money evaporates whereas the money spent for the Apple TV will last a long time.
If unsure, check out any YouTube reviews from respectable sources and then decide.

Excellent speaker not at BB because of plus fiasco

Excellent speaker but bought it elsewhere because of this endless dream Bestbuy has that they can charge a fee to get the same price everyone else has. It doesnt even tell you thet when it is in your cart but it wouldnt matter as I’m not paying to get a “deal” with menbership. Give it up but ivr hardly bought a thing this year because of it.

Worth it for Dirac but remote and interface poor

I was lucky enough to snag this when it became available again. I purchased this to replace a Yamaha RX-V6A which ended up being pretty big step up.
The main thing I wanted out of this received was the Dirac Live and it works very well. It takes some time to setup and fortunately I have the UMIC mic for use to calibrate and used my laptop to do the calibration. I had a lot of frustrations with the IOS app and the included mic and gave up. This definitely seems to need some work and unfortunately you can’t seem to use the UMIC mic with the IOS app. Either way prepare to spend at least an hour setting up Dirac and also prepare to do some follow-up calibration on cross overs and volume levels for each speaker. Once you fine tune all of that things really being to settle in and show the value of this received.
I also tested this with VRR on the PS5 and it works flawlessly. You need to adjust the HDMI inputs, at least in my case, to support 8K enhanced, I you miss this step you will not be able to use all the PS5 4K features.
The remote on this isn’t as good as the Yamaha. There are several single press options that existed on the Yamaha that simply are not there on the Onkyo such as direct selection of Audio modes via a push button. You have to cycle through options and I find that painful.
Bottom line is that the audio quality and Dirac are noticeable and worth the extra $$$. If you don’t care about Dirac then I’d suggest other options however.

I love this movie. The aesthetic is great and the story works well. It isn't Oscar material and isn't without plenty of holes in the story but every time I watch it I enjoy it. The 4K disc has great sound and great visual quality. You can tell that Joseph Kosinski did this as he did Tron Legacy and there is a quality that harkens back to that movie. Music is great too.
I highly recommend this.

Anyone have problems consistently charging a controller? I put controllers on and they are plugged in and charge symbol comes on in front of controller on base and then I pick up the controller and it isn't charged or worse is dead. Defective?

How do you hook up? Do I need my cable box still ?
Technically you do not need your cable box but the Apple TV does t do exactly the same thing. If you get rid of your cable box you’ll need to subscribe to the services you want on the Apple TV.

Will this play Dolby Atmos on Sonos arc sound bar?
Likely has more to do with the Sonos Arc than anything or possibly the TV and the audio return channel capability. The Apple TV will output Atmos so as long as the Sonos Arc decodes it then it should work but if you plug the Apple TV into the Tv and rely on something like an optical out vs HDMI it may not work.

I was supposed to get 3 months of free apple tv and some other things - 4 total apps. Where are they and/or how do I get them? These free apps were the reason I purchased Apple TV at Best Buy.

DO I GET A TV GUIDE WITH APPLE TV HDR, AND ARE YOU ABLE TO “SEARCH”
You can search but there is no guide like you might be thinking. Some apps like DirectV have a guide and the TV app on the Apple TV also can act as a guide but the network or service has to allow it. For instance, Netflix does NOT participate and it is extremely annoying but a Netflix issue as they refuse to support it.
You can also use a service such as JustWatch to find shows and where to watch them.

Via AirPlay from an iPhone or iPad yes. There may be an android app that does the same. Many LG TV’s however have a similar feature to AirPlay built-in too.
