Sleek, works well, a few quirks

I had a large tower fan that was obtrusive that I wanted to replace with a 3 season model. This Dyson fit that need.
I liked the build quality and sleek look. The colors go well with my decor.
At just under 24 inches, it is compact. So compact that I decided to put the Dyson on a small table I have - see the photo.
The heat output is OK as long as you are fairly close to the Dyson. The fan only has more range and the fan pattern can be adjust from focused to diffuse.
I’m about 7 feet away and the fan and heat are adequate. The Dyson has a small footprint compared to my former tower fan.
The remote is very small and easy to handle. See the photo of the remote in my hand for sense of size and scale.
Two issues cause me to rate this 4 stars rather than 5 stars.
Issue 1 was the fact that the remote is required to operate this device. If you break or lose the remote, the only function you can control is on/off.
I located a second Dyson branded remote for about $25 for the two seating locations in my living room.
Reason 2 is that if I press the fan speed button upward or downward quickly, it activates my McIntosh MX-122 home theater preamp controlled audio system. That’s a really quirky adverse event that won’t affect many users but it got my attention.
If I press the fan speed buttons slowly, it does not activate the McIntosh.
Hence my 4-star rating.
Overall, this Dyson unit is a better but pricier option than my tower fan. It looks good, works well enough from me and I can work around the shortcomings I described above.

The install kit is sort of wonky

I have cracked 2 Ailun screen protectors in 2 weeks. Dont even know how I cracked rhem but it was time for a new brand. The Otterbox premium pro was on sale for $19.99 so I bought it. The installation system is remedial, its just not well thought out. I cleaned the screen precisely per instructions. The screen itself had a tiny speck of dirt. I was able to lift the screen edge and remove the speck with a fine tweezer. All good after that. I’ll see how long this one lasts.

Great build quality with the titanium case and the sapphire crystal. The functionality is better than my old Apple 6 watch. Setup was easy and existing apps transferred without difficulty. My Tidal misic streaming app works MUCH better with the Ultra than my old Apple 6 watch. I use the watch at the gym for workouts, swimming, streaming music and communication. I did order a crystal cover despite the sapphire crystal because I’m tough on watches. Overall, this was great purchase and seeing the Ultra in person at Best Buy helped me make the purchase decision.

Hoping I never need the surge protection

Easy set up, display can be adjusted for brightness, voltage and amperage are visible on the display as well. Plenty of power outlets in the back, USB, 110v and RJ45 on the front of the unit - see the photo.
I really won’t know how well this unit works until I have a power surge or worse and all I can rely on is the product guarantee.
I read the warranty requirements carefully and made sure I complied with all the connection rules. Every wire that goes into your system has to pass through the Panamax unit first.
I’be been an audio freak since I was a teenager in the 1970’s and I can’t hear any material difference in my system or see any video difference with this unit attached. I’m leery of the reviews that claim improvements in sound or video. The Panamax unit is simply insurance for my gear in case of lightning or a power surge.
This is an expensive piece of gear at list price. I bought it “open box” which was sort of a misnomer because it didn’t even come with a box.
The unit was a bit dusty as well but the Best Buy employee insisted that it was a shelf model only and just needed a bit of a clean up. I paid about $200 for the Panamax - a drastic price reduction.
Not sure the Panamax is worth the full cost but if you can catch a deal, it’s worth it. Hope that helps.

Amazing video, audio not equal to video

I replaced a circa 2015 Sony 65 inch Sony 930 XBR OLED tv with this one and the video on the new A80J is better. The picture is super sharp and when fed true 4k video, it’s amazing. The audio is improved over the 2015 model but it’s still mediocre compared to the video.
I have an external home theater system attached so the audio quality isn’t a big deal. The rest of the TV is predictably Sony - well made, intuitive menus, easy to set up and my remotes previously programmed for my old Sony work perfectly with this new Sony.
I caught this new Sony on a great deal and haven’t seen the price I paid at the time repeated so that was a benefit as well.
If you want real audio for this OLED, get a good sound bar or home theater system. Overall I’m very happy with the A80J 65 inch product.
The attached photo is a screen shot from my TV in use. The lines on the screens in the photo are from the TV studio, NOT this Sony TV.

TV is great, Geek Squad installers sucked

Great TV. No issues after 1 year. I would not recommend the Geek Squad installers. They just wanted to slam the TV in and get out. Didn’t answer many of my questions about remote programming or other technical questions.
Next Sony I buy will be from a local source with trained pros who care about their install work. D their customers.

I owned the Ninja coffee maker and it sucks because it had to be constantly cleaned and you can’t use the Ninja when it demands to be cleaned which is about every 3 weeks.
This Cuisinart has been great replacement relative to cleaning. I just cleaned it for the first time in 4 months after daily use. It brews well, it’s easy to use and it’s convenient. My only “con” is that right out of the brewer, the coffee is not hot enough. It needs to sit on the heating plate for a bit to come up to heat

Not impressed - just use the regular power cord

I have an Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max with an Apple leather case. I wanted the magnetic power connector for when I travel and I got a special deal on the Apple magnetic connector. It was cheaper than the new Apple power cord for the new iPhone 12’s.
But there is NO advantage to the magnetic cord over the standard new USB cord unless you have a totally sealed phone case that covers the Lightning cord port. Otherwise this is a waste of money.
You also have to be sure the magnetic charger will work with your case. It’s OK with the Apple branded leather case but it didn’t work very well with an after market case that I had been using - it kept losing the magnetic “grip”. So be sure you check the connection out if you buy any non-Apple branded case and is buy those from Amazon because returns are so simple on Amazon.

The 12 has advantages but lacks the charger

I had an iPhone 10 max for about 2 1/2 years and the battery life was getting shorter. I was also curious about the new iPhone 12 camera quality and to eventually see if the 5G would actually work.
Battery life in the new 12 pro max is definitely better - I’d be down to 20% every night with the old 10 and with the same amount of use at the same time of day I’m at 60% with the new 12 pro max.
The camera in the 12 pro max is a decidedly better, especially in low light. It’s crisper, clearer and has better definition than the old 10.
Jury still out on the 5G - time will tell. The 12 is faster, the facial recognition is better and it’s not overly large compared to the 10.
It’s annoying that Apple does not include the charger, only the cable with the new 12. Always a cash grab on cables or accessories by Apple - it’s annoying.
Aside from the phone itself which is working out well, the phone pickup at Best Buy was annoying. It’s a long story that I won’t reiterate but next time I buy a new phone, it will NOT be from Best Buy. Their staff were rude and bureaucratic.
