Under the Red Hood Deux

If you've seen Under The Red Hood, you've seen this... Mostly. There's more to it, with branching paths much like a game, and it does change the ending depending on the choices you make. The only big flaw is how much you're left filling in the blank on. However if you're a fan - come on, you've already made up your mind.

"A Boys Best Friend Is His Mother"

Universal is famous for their movie monsters - Dracula, Frankenstein, The Creature, Invisible Man, Mummy, Phantom and Wolf Man, but they also have some unofficial monsters, and one of them is rather human... Norman Bates.
Anthony Perkins, if not under the watchful eye of Hitchcock himself, still would've made this movie work. He's that good. You sympathize with this guy, despite what he does. Thankfully, it's not just a movie with a single stand-out performance: every actor is good, and the visuals are excellent, thanks to the director himself.
If you've never seen it, or even if you know the ending, watch it anyway. It still works.

Somewhat they'll get it right...

If the first Hulk movie was to cerebral and slow, then the second one might be too simple and fast paced.
That's not to say this is a bad film. This is actually one I can rewatch multiple times and enjoy, because again, sometimes you want to just shut your brain off.
What's unfortunate here, is that the character of the Hulk has a lot of depth. That might sound surprising being this is from a comic book, but a character that has to do everything in his power from getting angry or scared, lest he become a massive uncontrollable beast, is a very interesting literary idea. And it's one I think that would really benefit from a film. But whereas Ang Lee's Hulk was so story driven, that when it's over you find yourself shocked that really not a lot happened, Louis Leterrier's Incredible Hulk has so much happen that It ultimately sacrifices the story. If not for Edward Norton's performance, as well as a subtlety he adds to Bruce Banner's characterization, this is a film that could easily fall apart.
Thankfully, it never does. It's just a film that goes down easy like most tentpole films do, and usually that's fine. It's sad because there could have been something deeper there.

Anything is better than 12

Different actors, different dynamic, different characters - but the same formula. And you know what? It works.
Every actress has a defined character, especially Bullock and Blanchett. The story is formulaic, but frankly, so were Clooney's films.
A good caper film is always fun, and this is no different. It isn't a classic like Oceans 11, but it's better than 12, and brisker than 13. I'm not sure we'll see this cast again, but I'm hoping we do.

When Star Trek becomes Star Wars...

I'll say this up front... I enjoy this trilogy as a MOVIE. They're entertaining, the actors worked hard and pull it off, and the visuals look beautiful.
But it's not Star Trek. These movies are more like Star Wars - that's not a compliment here. Star Trek was unique when it was cerebral and reflective of society. These are tentpole films, with not a lot of brain to them.
It's a shame too, because the heart is there. These actors really nail the characters, despite the moments where they're written out of character. I'd love to see them in smarter stories.

Best deal around

I've had several soundbars that I tried. Before this, the best was a $100, lower end version of this Vizio. This, for only $50 more, is considerably better - it adds tweeters, the dual subwoofers are stronger, the options are easier to control, and it includes HDMI ARC. You don't need a multi speaker system, this works great. I barely have the volume up and it sounds amazing.

The best way to watch this film
on October 15, 2020

Considering the Blu Ray set of this version goes for over $100, this is the best way to see it. Better picture, the entire story, and for the most part, it flows better. Where the theatrical cut was excellent and brisk, and the Directors Cut felt uneven, this one feels balanced - not too long, even though it IS longer - and that probably has to do with The Black Freighter being put back in the film. Somehow, it gives you a breather from the main action, and the moral of the Black Freighter reflects the story of the film itself. I won't spoil it...

First movie is excellent and holds up with repeat viewings. Second one throws most of that good will out of the window - however, still funny, just not as good as the first. This is cheaper than buying just one though, so may as well grab the set.
