The most terrifying night of the year continues in this chilling sequel to the seminal slasher. Psychotic-and seemingly unstoppable-killing machine Michael Myers stalks the Haddonfield hospital where teenager Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) is recuperating. Can Dr. Sam Loomis (Donald Pleasence) prevent Myers from engaging in some Inchexploratory surgeryInch of his own? With Charles Cyphers, Lance Guest. 92 min. Widescreen; Soundtrack English; Subtitles English. Three-disc set.

This movie looks good on 4k but for some reason the increased resolution wasn’t as noticeable as the other films in the franchise.

This movie looks amazing in 4k. The sound is reference quality. Had to turn it down to stop the walls from shaking.

Scare-packed fifth entry in the infamous horror film series follows unkillable killer Michael Myers as he continues his bloody rampage. But can the psychic link he shares with his young niece, Jamie Lloyd (Danielle Harris), provide the key to ending his scourge once and for all? Donald Pleasence, Ellie Cornell, Beau Starr, and Donald L. Shanks also star. 96 min. Widescreen; Soundtrack English; Subtitles English. Two-disc set.

This film doesn’t look as good on 4k as Halloween 4 but it’s still the best way to watch it, period.

Move over, Freddy and Jason, because Michael Myers is coming back! After spending 10 years in a prison asylum, Michael escapes and heads for the town where his bloody killing spree took place in order to find-and most assuredly attempt to murder-his own niece, Jamie Lloyd (Danielle Harris). Donald Pleasence, Ellie Cornell, Michael Pataki, Beau Starr, and George P. Wilbur co-star. 88 min. Widescreen; Soundtrack English; Subtitles English. Two-disc set.

This movie was shot on film so 4k really does bring the clarity to near reference quality.

This 6.6' (2M) charge cable - with USB-C connectors on both ends - is ideal for charging USB-C devices, and also supports USB 2 for syncing and data transfer between USB-C devices. To conveniently charge your MacBook, MacBook Air, or MacBook Pro from a wall outlet, pair the USB-C Charge Cable with a compatible USB-C power adapter, sold separately.

Here we go.....

This set is a mixed bag but I’m going to be as thorough as I can. I received this set on Halloween before it was officially released. At the time, I did not have a 4k setup in my theater room but Game of Thrones is my favorite show so I wanted to have the set and be future proof for when i finally decided to upgrade.
The set arrived with one or two dings and the box that houses the steel books was slightly offset/bent, but overall it was shipped with plenty of padding so I wont complain and should consider myself lucky after reading about some of the sets others received. THEN, i started reading reviews and hearing that multiple folks were receiving sets with missing disks and playback issues. I immediately checked to make sure all disks were in tact (which they were) and started to spot check a few episodes on the Xbox One S built in 4k Blu-ray app. With that being said, I would highly encourage NOT using these disks on the Xbox One S, as I had multiple skipping issues with Battle of the Blackwater and The Long Night episodes that were not fixed by cleaning the disks. It was at this point I realized I needed to watch the entire set before my return window closed, as returning the whole set and playing the disk lottery was not something I was keen to do. So I finally upgraded to a new 4k OLED and standalone 4k UHD Blu-ray player.
First off, let me confess: I inspected every disk before attempting playback. With 4k disks, you must thoroughly inspect for defects as quick inspection will show no issues. I literally took a flashlight and shined each disk before playing and lo and behold a lot of the disks had hidden fingerprints and light scratches. It’s very clear that these Best Buy exclusives are taken from the original set and manually placed into the steel books. Clearly the folks in charge of this process didn’t care to use gloves or handle the disks with any kind of care.
As far as playback issues I was able to steer clear for the majority of the set. I did have some freezing issues in the first 3 seasons, and I believe all of those issues happened on disk 3 during episode 7, 8, or 9. After removing the disk and doing a wipe down with a micro fiber cloth, I was able to fix my freezing issues that I experienced instead of repeating the problem at the same spot of the episode. I did not have any issues at all in seasons 4, 5, 6, and 7. My last freezing issues came at the 17 minute mark of S8 E3 The Long Night. Again, after removing the disk and doing a thorough wipe down I was able to eliminate the issue for that episode. With all that being said, it’s unclear if wiping the disk resulted in previous episodes being affected so only future revisits will tell.
Lastly, I must speak on the picture quality of the set. I see a lot of people saying that GoT has never looked better, and that is somewhat true due to the uptick in resolution. But honestly the original blu rays looked excellent and it’s a shame this set did not receive a Native 4k scan. At the end of the day picture quality on a TV will only look as good as the original source from the disk and there are two things that hold this set back. One is the fact that it received an upscaled transfer instead of a native scan as i mentioned before. Second is the fact that this show is ludicrously dark. We all know the issues HBO had with the dark picture for season 8 but after watching this entire set you realize this was a creative decision from the beginning. Dolby Vision makes it even darker. While there is more detail in the shadows thanks to DV, the lack of clear bright scenes throughout the show doesn’t allow this set to really pop as much as you’d like. There is smoke in every dark scene, and the large amount of snow scenes up north make for a lack of detail in those shots. I find it frustrating that the producers of this show think that every snowy scene must be a whiteout. Maybe Westeros is different, but here on earth you can usually still make out details in the wild when it’s snowing. Like I said, there is a difference between snow and a whiteout, and every snowy scene is some version of a whiteout it seems.
Another issue is the fact that directors of this show preferred the use of mid range close ups (from the belt line up) instead of close ups on the actors’ faces. This makes facial details like pores, sweat, and facial hair not as pronounced as they could be. For instance, the show Black Sails does not have a 4k version available; however, the detail available on the faces of the actors in that show is incredible on standard blu ray. You feel like you are actually talking to the characters in your living room. While the costumes of GoT look impeccable on this 4k transfer, the faces of the characters can seem a little flat. Speaking of flat, this 4k transfer does nothing to help the believability of the CGI. The dragons have never looked this soft, and it’s clearly just the fact that 4k is accentuating the limits of HBO’s CGI budget.
So there it is. Am I glad to have the whole set on 4k? Absolutely. Am i happy with the steel book version? Definitely. I just wish the set received the love its fans gave to the show with a native 4k scan, and I really wish the clowns at the warehouse stacking disks used more care and wore gloves for the love of God.
