This things gets hot...not warm, HOT.

The system specs and price are awesome. The fact that this thing overheats just doing windows updates, is unfortunate. Overheating is worst when plugged in to charge. Whether the processor is too powerful, the heatsink is undersized, the fan is underpowered, the all plastic chassis holds heat too well, or there simply isn't enough vents/space between components in the unit, I can't say. There are NO cooling controls like the higher-end models. Switching on permanent battery-saver mode was the ONLY thing that reduced the heat, and even then, after an hour it still overheats. Battery life is also pretty short...3~4 hours websurfing, MAX. Really disappointed; though HP engineered better products than this. Their older laptops never let me down.

If you need to burn blu-rays or dvds, or to just play discs, this unit will meet your needs! All software is included and is quite comprehensive. Can be a bit noisy with some discs, but not terrible. Be warned that this uses a dual USB-A plug, so you'll need 2 open ports on your computer to use it. Since I have ports on each side of the laptop, I just use a usb extension cable to connect the second usb plug. Kinda wish this model used USB-C, rather than micro-USB, though

Works well, looks nice and provides plenty of extra storage. Be aware, when the USB-C is plugged into a laptop, it stays cool, but when plugged into a phone's USB-C port, it gets pretty hot with more that 5~10 minutes of use. Probably best to not leave it plugged into phones/tablets longer than is necessary to transfer your files.

Gets pretty good reception for a non-amplified antenna. Btw, there are 2 antennas with this same sku and model number. The older, larger one (which this review is for) has a 35-mile range. The newer one is less than half the size and only has a 25-mile range. If BB's going to change the size and range of the antenna, why not just create a new sku and model number for it?

Good surge protector, used to protect a bedroom tv and blu-ray player. There is a black one that's the same price and has the same number of outlets as this one, but that one only has a 4' power cord (this one is 8') and it only offers 600 joules of protection (whereas this model is 900 joules.) This is the better value.
