Best receiver I’ve owned & worth the RZ price tag!

-Pros- Picked it up in November 2017 & have no regrets. Underrated RZ higher end & powerful line. Excellent combined with m-5010 amp for pre rear channels for a 11.2 (7.2.4). Atmos, DTS:X, Neural X, Dolby Vision THX & THX reference level. Airplay 2 & the AccuEQ beats my precious Audyssey internal calibration software. No orange outdated display like others. The cord is detachable. No need for a receiver fan, vents well and does not run hot, only warm when pushing it hard. Name your sources. Best receiver I’ve owned despite the below concerns.
-Cons or need improvements- Wish the amp would turn off with receiver as an option.
Sacrifice the on screen display when you hdmi split into two for video & audio.
The biggest con for me is that my previous LED tv & Onkyo receiver did well with an original Nintendo via composite & now this RZ combined with a C6 OLED does not display NES signal well. There’s artifacts on screen & picture is not fitted well on 16:9, not it displays full frame with the blacks bars on the sides and it’s off centered. Not sure if it’s new receiver or new tv. I did hook it up straight to tv & problem exist but have not hooked receiver to my LED to see if receiver does fine.
Wish you can adjust db levels during playback and not just during test tone mode. Adding the rest of the channels on the on screen “level” section & not just center and two subs.
Would be nice if you can preserve your settings if you’re on stereo mode for music, you can add bass & Treble without the need to reset before going to movie mode. I’d be nice to switch sources without always resetting.
I’d be nice if Atmos & DTS:X would stay lit during playback use.
Starts loud popping noises through your speakers if you start adding EQ and can hear it during changing sources, when you take any actions like start or stop a movie or press rew or ff.
CEC doesn’t function property with other units even after turning it off on tv and can be frustrating wanting to just turn on tv & dvr and the receiver ends up turning on & triggers Apple TV to turn on changing your source inputs. I don’t turn it off on receiver as I like the option to use tv audio when big sound is not needed when I’m doing things around the house during dialog shows.
The fm antenna is a joke with all receivers and can only pick up two radio stations.
USB needs to be in the front. It’s a mission to get to the back.
Non older inputs like s-video to hook up my S-VHS without the need of adapters or converters that adds clutter.
Not made in Japan like they use to.
No composite out.
-Could use- Night lit remote Gold plated terminals blue lit volume knob 0 reference level volume display

I didn’t find anything wrong with it. I enjoyed it for a week until I realized I couldn’t use it for full Atmos. Ended up with RZ-920 which I’m extremely happy with!!

Watch it at the theaters & was a must buy w/ Atmos

————————————Pros—————————————
Movie: The kid’s cast sold the movie & made the adults look like amateur actors/actresses. Defiantly satisfied & did not disappoint. I rarely give 5 stars!
Picture: Always a great picture on an OLED panel, 4k upscale.
Audio: Atmos on a Blu-ray is always appreciated but dialog was low. Makes me think it’s intentional for jump effectiveness but causes sound unbalance when cranked up. Played on an Oppo through a 11.2 (7.2.4). There was life like moments for example on the scene were Linda was in the barn under the deck and she looked up listening to the footsteps, as it was projected on screen, the sound came out from the top ceiling speakers giving you that realistic atmosphere experience. There was few 360 & from/back panning immersive surround sound that I also look forward to.

Audio: Low dialog that makes you crank up your center channel.

It’s holding about 150 VHS, my left over DVDs & Blu-rays that I have updated to 4K with lots of room left for more.
The assemble process was tedious that took few hours considering you have to attached to the wall as well but not difficult.
-cons-
There was a visual illustration step (around step 3) on the manual that didn’t match up to the realistic step which caused confusion with were some screws went in what holes. Ignore the visual around that step of the setup.

Movie: Great action war movie that was nowhere near the experience of this new version compare to when I watched it in the theater when it came out.
Picture: Always a great picture on an OLED panel & because it’s an older movie I had to switch to my other custom HDR setting to avoid grain.
Audio: Atmos was impressive & was a reference demo material. Played on an Oppo through a 11.2 (7.2.4). There was life like moments for example, when helicopter scenes where projected on screen above you, the height ceiling channels activated giving you a realistic atmosphere. There were some 360 surround & some front and back panning that gives you that immersive sound we look for.
