This SteelBook is a winner. Bold, colorful art inside and out; a nice glossy finish; and a bonus comic book included (packaged behind the SteelBook, not inside). A nice complement to the movie itself, with a tasteful HDR application and Dolby Vision included for capable equipment.
This release features all three feature-length adventures in The Hobbit franchise, based on the novel of the same name by J.R.R. Tolkien. Hobbit Bilbo Baggins and a crew of thirteen dwarves embarks on an epic quest to reclaim the Lonely Mountain from the dragon Smaug. Included here are The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012), The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013), and The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014).

I love all the art on these SteelBooks as well as the outer case. I love that the SteelBooks are separated by foam padding in the case so they don't rub up against each other. I love the fact that these contain both the theatrical and extended editions of the films in new 4K restorations. I don't love the fact that none of the previous special features are included—not even the commentary tracks from the extended editions. And I don't appreciate that all of these SteelBooks have a flat matte finish. It would have been so much better (and worth the inflated asking price over the standard editions) if they were glossy and/or had some kind of embossing/debossing.
Finally, I have to give a shout-out to the pack & ship team at Best Buy who prepared my order. After my Back to the Future 4K SteelBooks were sent to me in a large bubble mailer(!) I feared for the worst, but this set and the LOTR 4K SteelBooks were shipped together in a perfectly fitted box, and sent USPS Priority Mail. After reading so many horror stories of dented or even smashed up outer cases, I am delighted to report this set was almost absolutely pristine. There was a neat little cut on the spine of The Desolation of Smaug, but that happened well upstream of Best Buy's pack & ship process. While I normally wouldn't buy a SteelBook with a known imperfection like that, considering all the other positives regarding its condition (and its surprising scarcity!) I'm fine with it. Thank you guys, when you take care to package collector's items like this, you get fewer returns/refunds and more delighted customers.
This release brings together every entry into Peter Jackson's critically-acclaimed The Lord of the Rings trilogy, based on the novels by J.R.R. Tolkien. Hobbit Frodo Baggins and the Fellowship embark on a dangerous quest to destroy the One Ring, and with it, its maker, the Dark Lord Sauron, in order to save Middle Earth forever. Included here are The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001), The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002), and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003).

The front and back cover art on this SteelBook are terrific. Combine that with a glossy finish and you've got a winner. I wish this has come out when the movie made its 4K UHD debut last year, but Paramount succeeded in getting me to double-dip for this classic film. The included (folded) movie poster is an interesting touch, but I won't do anything with it. My only quibble with this release is the inclusion of the colorized version on the Blu-ray instead of a 2K conversion of the B&W remaster. If you're looking to future-proof your collection for the day you buy a 4K TV and/or disc player, you won't be able to enjoy the benefit with the included Blu-ray. The 4K SteelBook release in the UK has the restored B&W version on the included Blu-ray, just FYI.

Beautiful SteelBook, much preferred over std. pkg.

This SteelBook has a beautifully minimalist design that I love. Glossy finish, pure black background, the numerals "1917" slightly debossed on the front (not on the back) with rich color coming through. I won't quibble too much with the lack of variety on the art between the front cover and the back. It looks great and feels like a premium product.

Very nice looking SteelBook. Glossy finish. The inside and back cover art are terrific. Front cover art is decent; I probably would have chosen to switch the back and the front. No title on the front (it's on the spine) or embossing/debossing are the only drawbacks, but not enough to dissuade my recommendation. Movie was very good, a step above the recent wave of live-action Disney remakes.

This SteelBook is full gloss, par for the course for Disney SteelBooks in recent years. There is no embossing or debossing, but there's a nice sheen in the movie title on the front as well as a "halo" around Mulan as she prepares to put on her father's helmet. Inside art is very good, back art is serviceable. It isn't as spectacular as the Zavvi steel from a few years ago, but for the 4K collector this is the best overall version of the movie to buy. The included Blu-ray contains the movie (not its sequel) and special features. The commentary was not ported over to the UHD.
Celebrate the 35th Anniversary of the ultimate sci-fi comedy Back to the Future with this box set containing all three movies, starring Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd as as a pair of unlikely allies, traveling through time to experience a whole range of unforgettable adventures. Included are Back to the Future, Back to the Future Part II, and Back to the Future Part III.

Beautiful 4K marred by poor SteelBooks and packing

Five stars for the A/V presentation of these films. They are far, far better than their prior incarnations on Blu-ray.
Minus one star for the SteelBook packaging. This is a tough one. On the one hand, it's much better than the standard edition with disc sleeves, where each disc is crammed into a tight slot that's impossible to remove without marking up the disc with fingerprints and/or scratches. With the SteelBooks you get a dedicated case for each movie and each disc is far easier to remove from its hub. On the other hand, the SteelBook art is really quite terrible, and the finish is the worst kind of matte. It's rough, like really fine-grained sandpaper. For the $20+ premium that's being charged for the SteelBooks, I really feel we should have received better.
Minus one star for packing and shipping. Best Buy sent me this set in a bubble mailer of all things. Thankfully it arrived relatively undamaged, but it really deserved better packing in a box.
Pick it up in store if you can to enjoy a nice four-star release.

It's a war movie, so it feel appropriate to get this in SteelBook form. That said, the front image is extremely similar to the wide 4K release. Also, it has a matte finish and no embossing/debossing to speak of. The packaging definitely seems like an afterthought from Sony, but the A/V caliber of this release is phenomenal. The SteelBooks coming from Disney at least seem to be worth the price premium over the regular edition. This one, with the same price premium . . . not as much.

Nice SteelBook with all bonus features ported over

While the original poster art would have been ideal for the front cover, the minimalist art design, coupled with a glossy finish and debossed movie title, make this a very attractive SteelBook. It's worth choosing this over the regular 4K edition.
It's worth noting that both the regular and SteelBook editions contain both Blu-ray discs included in the original 2011 release, so you don't lose any of the special features from then.
