Audio Quest Quality
on May 3, 2020

Was finishing up my home theater and bought this speaker cable to replace my entry-level speaker wire I have been using.
Very nice product - extremely high quality. I don't notice any difference in the sound quality, but that was to be expected, as there are enough audiophiles that say that speaker wire is basally snake oil. But, it is still nice to have high quality speaker wire that looks great and is tough enough to not worry about severing or getting kinked and breaking.
It's a bit tough to splice and get at the wires, but overall a great product.

Amazing Case

Honestly, I think this is the ideal case for the iPhone. It has the protection of the Otterbox, but remains extremely thin, where you don't feel like you're walking around with a 2X4 piece of wood in your pocket.
I'd STRONGLY RECOMMEND this product. Anything larger is way too excessive. This will provide 99% of the protection, yet remains life-friendly.
Love this product!

I purchased a new iPhone X and of course the wireless provider tried to sell me a screen protector that was 3X the price of this.
I went straight to Best Buy and bought this screen protector and have had absolutely NO ISSUES with this product. I'd never think twice about buying this product - it is fantastic.

Decent for the money - no tilt is a big detractor
on May 3, 2020

Verified Purchase:Yes
Overall, the screen looks decent for what you'd expect from a monitor in the $200 range..
The only MAJOR downside is that there is no tilt functionality to the screen, and the monitor has an angle that completely unacceptable. I had to place about an inch of spacers underneath the front of the stand to make the monitor face me, vs. facing my stomach on the desk. This worked, and now isn't an issue, but to spend $200 and have it not work straight out of the box is disappointing.
I'd recommend buying a monitor that has tilt functionality to prevent this issue.

Well Done Remastering
on May 3, 2020

I was very skeptical when it came to the remastering of a movie this old, but all my worries were for nothing, as the remastering is amazing.
The opening scene is very dark/red, so I was worried for the first 3 minutes of the film, but all other scenes looked amazing.
I would recommend based on the quality of this film's remastering. It looks like the film was filmed originally in HD.

Amazing Sound - Questionable Longevity
on May 1, 2020
Posted by: JoeS3
Verified Purchase:Yes
First off - these speakers sound amazing. I am not an audiophile, but I was going between purchasing some floor standing speakers and then adding (2) subwoofers, or just purchasing these towers with the integrated subs.
I went to BBY and listened to all the different independent subwoofers in the store, and while they were "okay", none of the options blew me away. Then I went into the room with the Def Tech speakers, and we watched the same movie clip with the BP9080x tower speakers, and the decision was made instantly. The subs sounded signifcantly deeper, as well as more balanced than any of the individual subwoofers, and the comparison was not even close. The Def Techs sound 2X better, easy.
I pulled the trigger, and took them home. Set them up into my home theater, and they sound amazing. The bass is off the charts, to the point that I get in trouble each time I from the neighbor when I watch an action movie, as it shakes their entire wall of their house! I have the subs at 20%, but if you crank them to 40% (or 50% if you're crazy), they will seriously shake your entire house! I cannot believe the amount of bass these things kick out.
Now the bad...
The automatic turn on of the subwoofer amplifiers are a horrible idea. When i turn on a movie, the subs won't turn on unless there is a powerful enough signal, I have to turn the volume up to a level where it recognizes the bass, then sometimes 1, sometimes both of the subs will come on. Then about 2 seconds after the subs turn on, a big "THUMP" happens EVERY TIME! The only way to avoid this that I've found is to have a separate surge protector with only the towers hooked up to it, and then power the surge protector on before every movie. This turns the subs on with no signal, prevent the big "thump" noise.
Then, after watching a movie, the subs remain on for about 10-15 minutes, but when the amps turn off, the big "Thump" occurs again. It is so distasteful that I stopped using the speakers for half a year because it sounds so bad. I called Def Tech and told them the issue, but they wouldn't even hear me out - they simply sent me a new amplifier in the mail and said that will fix the issue. NOTE - both towers do this, so I will have to write Def Tech back and request another amp, one for each tower to fix this issue (if this truly is the problem). If it is the problem, what are the chances both towers would be defective?
I purchased the center speaker as well, the CS9080, and that speaker has some issues occurring as well, so I'm losing faith in Def Tech's quality. The sound is amazing, but not sure they are using quality parts, or the sourcing partners have some serious quality control issues.
If I were to go back in time, despite the Def Techs sounding incredible (from a bass perspective), I think I'd avoid getting integrated subwoofers, and just get a pair of quality KEF Q-series, or some nice B&W's, and then pair with a couple SVS subwoofers and call it a day. Non-powered speakers should last FOREVER, so by removing the weak link (amplifier in integrated sub), you remove the one potential issue you could have.
I have a full Def Tech setup, BP9080x towers, CS9080 center, and the 9080 surrounds, and they sound great, but for all the stress they've caused me with quality issues, I'd avoid.

Fantastic Product - Great Quality
on May 1, 2020
Posted by: JoeS3
Verified Purchase:Yes
I dreamt of owning this product for over a year, and finally pulled the trigger on it this year to complete my home theater.
I purchased this receiver to get the atmos speakers on my Def Tech BP9080x towers working, being I've had the towers for over a year and never was able to enjoy that feature of them. I wasn't expecting much, but was shocked how much the atmos speakers added to movies.
Regarding the "Marantz" sound - I'm not sure if i'm not an audiophile, and therefore can't appreciate the nuances of this receiver, but the sound seems similar to my Sony receiver that this product replaced.
The most noticeable difference in switching to this receiver was the bass. On my old Sony, I had to crank up the bass to +6 to get any performance out of my subs. With the Marantz, there is no "bass" setting on the receiver, so the only way to alter the level of bass is actually adjusting the nob on the back of the Def Tech BP9080x towers, but DANG!!! I have the subs turned to about 20%, and have seriously had the neighbor texting me in minutes of turning any action movie on! I cannot believe how much bass this receiver kicks out!
Overall, great product. I'm not sure if the "value proposition" is there with this product, but if you're looking to purchase a product you'll be proud to own, and you're like me where the legend of Marantz gets in your soul and you have to fulfill the desire to experience one no matter the cost, you'll love it.
As many have noted, the only major downside is that the only way to adjust the speaker settings is to leave your movie, go into the "setup" interface of the receiver, and adjust from there. There is not a great way to "adjust on the fly" when watching a movie. You are forced to leave the entire movie, make the adjustments, log back into the movie to verify if the adjustment made an improvement, and continue with that process until you're happy. Much more cumbersome than my old Sony that you could adjustment levels, treble, bass, balance, etc, all while watching movie (so you got real time feedback of the adjustments)

I purchased this product to protect my home theater. Between the speakers, TV, receiver and media players, I have over $10k invested, so thought it was time to get a decent surge protector.
Purchased this product, and couldn't be happier. Great quality, makes no noise when running, and extremely small considering 8 outlets.
Strongly recommend!

Great Quality - Electric "Buzz" Unacceptable
on May 1, 2020
Posted by: JoeS3
Verified Purchase:Yes
I have been wanting to purchase this product for over a year. When it went on sale, I jumped on the opportunity and was so excited to throw into my home theater setup.
Getting the product out of the box, I was impressed with the high quality look and feel of the Panamax 5400 - you can tell this is a serious piece of equipment.
I got the home theater hooked up, and sat down to watch a movie, and all i could hear before the movie turned on was this "buzz" coming from the Panamax. I sit about 8 feet away from my TV/TV stand where I had the Panamax located, and I could still hear the buzz from that distance away.
I turned the last three banks off to see if that helped, and the "buzz" quieted down slightly, but still noticeable. Turning on the last 3 banks produced a louder buzz, to the point that I could hear it the entire time I was watching my movie. I watch my movies at about 80-85db, and despite that level of volume, if it was a talking segment of the movie (60-65db), I could hear the buzz coming from the surge protector.
The buzz noise forced me to return the product. Amazing quality, and I'm sure it does a great job as a power center, but unless you're putting this product in a separate room from your home theater, the buzz noise is unacceptable and very distracting.

When you must have the Best
By WisEd
The entire 800 d3 series are the best speakers in the market by any measure. A larger size simply provides better bass extension. The headed models are sonically equal again, larger models simply offering additional bass extension and the possibility of even higher volume levels. The 803 is the smallest headed model, at almost 150lbs each small is relative. What is amazing is that with their rather modest woofers it can still provide frequencies of less than 20hz at less than 1% harmonic distortion. In effect it pretty much blows the previous 802 model out of the water in every dimension, spectacular indeed. These speakers will do justice to any genre, from Def Punkt to Stravinsky to everything in between. Beware, these speakers are supernaturally revealing, you will plainly differentiate an extraordinary recording from an awful one.

Agree 100% with Review
October 31, 2020
I have owned the 803 D3s for about 3 weeks now, paired with a McIntosh 7200, and I agree 100% that the bass these produce is amazing. In the listening room at Magnolia, the bass felt lacking, but at home in a 10’X24’ room, the bass is stunning. Should you pair with a pair of subwoofers - yes, but if you need time to rebuild your funds after buying these speakers, you’ll be very happy with their bass output.
Wanted to comment on this, as I didn’t believe it, but these speakers can hold their own in the bass department.

Enjoy true high-definition surround sound from your home theater with this Definitive Technology speaker. With powerful left/right speaker dispersion and balanced surround sound, this speaker immerses you in an enjoyable audio experience. Sized to fit unobtrusively into home theater systems, this Definitive Technology speaker includes iconic design elements that enhance the visual aesthetic of your system.

Given these speakers are rated to go down to 40hz, what is the correct crossover point? Should they be set at the traditional 80hz, or would it be better to put the crossover at 70hz?
