I've dropped my phone a few times and this has indeed protected it. It doesn't fit perfectly, the rubber sort of sticks out on the corners which is an annoyance. The flaps that the power and the 1/8th inch audio plug use are often hard to impossible to open and I find myself getting very frustrated trying to pry them open. I end up sort of mashing them into the rubber housing until I can sort of pop them open.
