Wifi 5 router with easy setup and good coverage

This a nice router without spending a lot.
First step is after getting the router out of the box, is downloading the Linksys app for setup. The app makes setup really straight forward and the only negative would be to have the option to access more advanced features during the setup process. Performance and coverage of a 3bdrm house is great for this price point. (~7wired and 14+wireless clients). Would recommend at it's sale price, at MSRP, there are a few more competitive options to consider.

Must this router be plugged directly into the modem? I have a modem box downstairs in a wired house. I want to install this router upstairs using the ethernet cable upstairs.
