Maximize space in your kitchen with this 30-inch Whirlpool over-the-range microwave oven. Are we able to use this microwave by placing on a surface until we are ready to install. Our cabinets will not be ready for a month or two but our old microwave just went so we need something in the meantime.

Yes you can use this over the range microwave by placing it on the surface. Just don't use the vent/fan feature (sometimes we accidentally press it).
In the meantime you can adjust the position of the motor fan (back top) depending on which way your exhaust vent goes (either through the wall, or up through the cabinets).
