Great drive - but needs a fan

This is a great drive - a huge amount of storage and fast!

When I first got the drive, I set it up to do a full scan of
the drive. I did a CrystalDiskInfo before I started (see
the picture), and the disk temperature was 31deg C.
The scan took 5 hours. At the end of the scan the disk
temperature had risen to 50deg C (see the picture). After
completing the scan I watched to see how the temperature dropped. After 3 hours it had fallen to
45deg C. The passive cooling acts very slowly, despite
the large number of slots in the bottom, top, and back
of the drive housing.

Next I obtained a dual fan, and set one at the back to
push cool air into the drive. I put the second on top of
the drive to pull hot air out of the drive. I then wrote files to the drive for 3 hours. The starting temperature of the
drive was 30deg C. The temperature at the end of the
3 hours of copying files was just 33 deg (see picture)! I think this shows the effectiveness of having external fans.

Great laptop for school! So far this thing has not let me down at all. I was in need of a new laptop for school and I snagged this one during a flash deal. Holy crap I'm glad I did! I was looking for a laptop with at least 8GB of RAM for school (as I feel that is a must in today's standards) and came across this one. So far it has been able to handle all the basic daily multi-tasking I can think of it with no problem, word processing, music, youtube ect. Another huge plus is the keyboard on this thing. It feels so exteremely nice to type on. This was another thing that I had to make sure felt good as I will be writting a lot of paper on this thing I'm sure. I'm acutally writting this review on it currently. The numberpad on the track pad takes a little while to get used to but use you do it's a nice addition. Especially if you use a mouse with it. (Might I reccomend the Logitech Peble 2, amazing mouse to pair with this laptop). Battery life is about average I will say that. I currently have be using this thing pretty heavily and I'm at 60% battery life with an estimated 2hrs 39mins remaining. So don't plan going the whole day with out the charger as you most likely won't be getting more that 6 hours out of it. On the flip side this thing charges super fast for having just a standard DCIN charger (I do wish it was usb-c but oh well).

Every major drive manufacturer dives their drives into categories based on performance, usually colorized. It's partially a marketing gimmick to make it easier for the average consumer to pick a drive based upon their use case, but does give a little guidance. This is considered Western Digital's "top of the line" on the consumer side.
When you need pure capacity, you still have to go with the traditional HDD if you don't want to break the bank. This drive delivers a good price-per-gigabyte ratio when you factor in its performance. It runs at 7200 RPM, so you get faster seek times, which shows in the sequential reads and writes. The random access is pretty dismal when compared to an SSD or NVMe drive, but that's just what happens when you have a physical arm that can only move so fast.
All in all, I'm impressed with the overall performance of the drive. My previous drive that died was a ten year old Seagate drive, and it probably peaked around 130-140 MB/second. This drive is hitting 230 MB/second, which is pretty crazy for a single HDD.
I've had some people comment about the drive's noise level, but perhaps those people are used to silent SSD drives and not the clickety-clack of an old school HDD. I wouldn't say it's much louder than a typical HDD.
With a five year warranty instead of the typical three year, it gives you a little more peace of mind. Even so, always make sure you have backups of your important stuff!

These drives have worked great for me. Just bought the 256GB because I needed more space. I have had the 128GB version in use for over a year now. I haven't benchmarked them or anything like that, but they have been fast and reliable and very low profile, and no excessive heat. Mine came formatted as Fat32, which caused issues for me because a particular program's photo database I was backing up exceeded the Fat32 file limits. At first I thought I had a bad drive, but after realizing what was happening and reformatting to extFat everything was fine. With reports of the Sandisk version getting hot enough that the plastic melts, and the older Samsung Fit models also having heat issues, this was my pick and I've been very happy with it. (I also just bought a Samsung Fit Plus 64GB to use for Windows installations--since the installer repartitions the flash drive and I was sick of having to mess around to get my 128GB drive back--so I guess I'll know in another couple of weeks how it compares to the PNY, As of right now, I am sticking with these Elite-X for everything important as they have been rock solid.)

I have a teen that is headed off to multiple college experience camps this year and we needed to find her a highly portable, rugged, laptop for basic school functions as well as staying connected with friends and family back home. The ASUS Vivobook 14 is checking all of those boxes and more, with its compact and sturdy design and (college relevant) capable processing specs.
In the box is the laptop and power cable, setup is easy in the fact that it's the normal Windows plug and play workflow. Starting with the build, things to note - the underside has an elevated ridge to provide a slight angle when sitting on a table, this also reduces some of the force on the hinge when the screen is laid open flat. The number pad is built into the mouse pad, controlled through the on/off touch sensor in the mouse pad. The keyboard layout affords a decent amount of space, even for those with larger hands, key press is semi-firm, and average responsiveness. The number of ports is generous for this compact build, included ports are headphones, HMDI port, 2x USB-A 3.2, USB-C 3.2, and a USB-A 2.0 port. There is a front facing 720p camera with indicator LED for video calls, with a physical cover for privacy. As far as internals go, this build has an i3 processor (geared for school work and surfing), Intel UHD graphics (can support limited gaming applications), upgradable 8 GB RAM (supports photoshop and basic engineering course applications), 128 GB SSD and 14" FHD LED screen.
The thing that surprised me the most about this build is the Intel Gen12 i3 processor isn't as cumbersome as I had anticipated. I had predicted that this laptop would only be able to surf and support doc editing. While I did see CPU utilization peg while testing, the i3 hung in there and was able to deliver on excel workbooks, with some light macros. Looking at what most college courses require, I didn't see any software that this i3 couldn't tackle. However I would absolutely recommend the RAM upgrade if doing more intensive work. On the flip side, this build is somewhat loud, the fan runs the majority of the time, even with light loads. The fans are located in the back, so while the bottom of the laptop stays relatively cool, the back edge blows hot air so I find that it's more comfortable on a desk than in my lap. Speakers are as expected, somewhat flat, but work for streaming and have enough volume to be effective even with background noise. Monitor quality is good, viewable from all angles 90* through laying flat. The camera is better than expected, I don't look washed out against a light colored background, and it manages low light settings decently.
Bottom line - at 3 lbs, this is highly portable and feels sturdy enough to go anywhere. My recommendation is to get this for college, travel, basic tasks, and video conferencing. It's a great value build if you need the basic efficiency functions but want something that can also be used for streaming, surfing, and relaxing. The trade offs are that it's not going to be great at gaming, it won't manage complex tasks such as data analysis software, and you're not going to edit 4k images. If these tasks weren't on your 'to do' list today or unlikely in the next year, then I recommend this build.

I had great anticipation waiting to see & use the Razer - Laptop Cooling Pad with Intelligent Fan Control and Chroma RGB. I've seen the prior laptop stand in action and was eager to see how Razer approached this design vs. many of the competitor products out available for around the same price point.
I'll start by saying that overall aesthetic is very nice and typical Razer. The power brick is beefy, the sleek lines and workmanship is again - typical Razer and at a high level. The RGB strip is just enough in my mind and nicely appointed. This Razer - Laptop Cooling Pad can be used without loading up the Synapse software - if one chooses to do so - as the most critical button controls are located on the right side. When adjusting the speed, I noticed no distinct pure tone (or pitchy frequencies) and that sets it apart from all the other cooling platforms I have used.
Here's the problem: When I went to place & connect my recently purchased Lenovo Legion 7i gaming laptop onto this cooling pad, it simply wouldn't turn on. You can imagine my surprise. Sometimes the Legion wouldn't respond at all to power button pushes and other times the power button would light up, but nothing would happen. I tried this with the Razer - Laptop Cooling Pad's USB cable both connected and not connected.
After fiddling with it and becoming frustrated, I switched to a different non-gaming laptop (that I would never see the need to have such performance-based cooling on...) and that Dell computer worked fine. Now I'm really puzzled.
I switched back to the Legion 7i and confirmed it would power-up and functional normally, just sitting on the deck. Upon attempting to place the already powered-up Legion 7i back onto the Razer cooling, I immediately noticed that all the keyboard backlighting went dark, and the illuminated Legion power button would flicker. Bingo!
I don't have the necessary tools at home to sniff this problem out properly, but my educated guess is either this cooling pad wasn't properly compliance tested for RFI and EMI, or it was and done so haphazardly. I am leaning towards the theory that the magnets inside the rather large motor assembly are not shielded properly - or at all. The reason I am leaning this way is because I further discovered that if I offset the Legion 7i to the left or right of center (on the pad) and/or lift the laptop up off the foam by just a few centimeters - the 7i comes back to life and functions properly.
Summary:
This cool pad has a design flaw and didn't go through rigorous compatibility testing. Hopefully my review will help other customers find a quick answer to similar behavior and avoiding the frustration. There is definitely some sort of RFI/EMI/magnetic field emission problem on this pad and my guess is that Razer's own gaming laptops work fine on this platform.

I will attempt to obtain some Mu-metal shielding material to confirm my findings. Some Mu-ferro shielding foil should do the trick...
Seeing this severe of incompatibility with a popular gaming laptop brand keeps me from being able to recommend the Razer - Laptop Cooling Pad with Intelligent Fan Control and Chroma RGB.

How is the am fm quality pickup. I live in the country.
I live in a small town. I pick up local fm stations, and fm stations within 30 miles with outstanding clarity. The tuner locks on, and there is zero drift (none observed over a 5 hour period, and it remains tuned precisely from day to day). I can't speak to am stations.

I thought this came with batteries I just took off the cover and there aren’t any batteries. Did you guys get batteries with yours?
It has a built in rechargeable battery. Use the supplied ac power cord to charge it. Make certain the switch on the back is "on" when you do this.

Does this model have bluetooth?
It has bluetooth for input sources - so you can stream music from your phone to it. However, it does not have bluetooth output - so you can not use bluetooth headphones or ear plugs with it directly.

Often your local Goodwill store, and other charity shops, can be a place to find used cassette tapes - generally at very attractive prices.

Does this play cds?
The short answer is no - this boombox does not have a built in cd player. However, as noted in the previous answer you can plug a cd player into the AUX Input and play cds.

Can you listen to tapes in the stereo?
I have played stereo cassette tapes in this boombox, and can verify that you get true stereo sound out of the boombox from them. The same is true when tuned in to fm stereo stations, and when playing stereo mp3 files from a usb stick. An added note - the mp3 files obtained from copying stereo cassette tapes using this boombox are also true stereo.

I must transfer short clips from CDs to cassette tape. Can I connect jacks from my amp directly to the tape recorder, and fade-in fade-out?
With the appropriate cable or cable adapter you can plug the output from your amp directly to the AUX Input on the side of the boombox. You can then record to the cassette recorder. There are no controls on the boombox to provide fade-in fade-out, however.

Will wireless headphones work with this boombox?
The short answer is no. This boombox does not have the bluetooth out feature. It does, however, have an excellent headphone out to use with wired headphones or ear phones. I have used it with good quality headphones (Sennheiser 570) and the sound is excellent.

The boombox comes with an ac cord to plug it into a wall socket. You use it to charge the built-in internal rechargeable battery. The hours of airplay you get on a full charge will depend on how it is being used: the loudness setting for the speakers, whether you are using bluetooth, whether you are playing or recording with the cassette player/recorder. With the speakers set to moderate volume for a small room and playing the radio I have run the radio for 10 hours with no problem.
