With it I get speeds of typically 400 MB/s, which are close to the maximum of 500 MB/s for this drive connected directly to the SATA inside a pc. I use it to do backups of the drives inside my tower. Thought I was buying an exact copy of the laptop I had when I ordered it online. Took it out of the box and it was NOT the same. My fault for trusting HP. The old HP Pavillion had a backlit keyboard and a good touchpad, which the replacement doesnt. Also, it seems to jump randomly to different cells when I am working in a spreadsheet. On the plus side, more storage and lower price point.
I recommend you test drive HP Pavillions rather than buy them online, because you dont know what you are going to get online

Good points! After doing some online research I learned that large chains like Best Buy often have a variant of a device that is slightly different to what is described on the manufacturer's website. Sometimes it might have some additional feature, and sometimes it will be missing some feature. You will sometimes find that the product id listed on the seller's website does not appear on the manufacturer's website - which is an indicator of a special variant for that seller.

It didn’t say that the RAM was soldered in the laptop. I couldn’t use a recently bought ram into it. The sellers said that I can upgrade it but maybe they didn’t know that the ram was soldered. Overall its good just disappointed by the non upgradable RAM

You made a good point. I had to do some searching to learn that the RAM was not upgradeable. However, I also learned that HP installed the RAM in an optimal way, by installing two identical 4GB chips that run in parallel. This is far better than installing one 8GB chip.

I have had a similar experience but used a paper clip that I pushed into the tiny hole next to the eject button. It worked perfectly afterward. I think this method has a far smaller chance of physically damaging the drive.

The laptop is a good one and does just about anything basic you will need it for.
If you're buying for just standard use like browsing, streaming, or other typical tasks, this will be more than enough to help support that.
The laptop itself is also pretty light, and good for travel.
While I'm not a fan of touchscreens, it's a nice additional option to have for those who prefer to utilize that feature.
One thing is that the storage itself is very low, so you wouldn't want to get this laptop for any major multimedia use. Storing music and photos will probably be fine, to a point, but videos and larger HD images will probably fill up the storage on this quite fast.
Overall, decent unit, nothing fancy, but seems reliable overall.

So far seems like a good computer. I bought as Christmas present for my Mom, so time will tell. I set it up for her and only thing I’m struggling a little with is the Microsoft 11S version. I’m not clear if I still need separate virus protection or not, and in S mode I can’t download the free security suite offered by her internet provider because it’s not a Microsoft application. I’m hoping this will be good enough for her to check emails and do banking.

This was a great deal when I bought it. Bought it for my mother who is elderly and enjoys watching videos on her phone. She very much enjoys the big 15 inch screen compared to her phone. Also, this laptop comes with a touchscreen which makes it very easy to use even for someone who never uses a computer. It is quick enough and has enough memory for her to store all her photos. Its not the lightest laptop, but that okay. Overall I would recommend this laptop for someone looking for everyday use like internet browsing, video streaming, etc.

I bought this laptop a bit impulsively since I needed a new one for school with a camera and good enough battery. It definitely does the job, the only drawbacks being 720p camera, Windows 11 off the bat, no privacy shutter and bad speaker quality. For the speaker/sound- don't get me wrong it's not the worst, but definitely not the best, as the audio seems to come from the bottom of the laptop which makes the sounds become muffled in almost any position. Apart from these small quality of life issues it handles fine, seems sturdy, good battery, and has decent space. Additionally, I play videogames on this such as, Rainbow Six Siege, PayDay 2, Sims, etc. which run fairly fine besides the fan getting hot of course. I give it a 8/10 since it serves as a substitute for an actual desktop and don't think I'll be getting rid of it anytime soon.

Can you program a wattage limit? I can’t have an appliances exceed 1000 watts where I live
The wattage used increases with the set temperature, and also with the speed of the fan (which can't be set).

Does this item have a 3 prong plug? I need one as i will use it at work and need 3 prong to be compliant
It has a polarized two-prong plug, ie, one prong is larger than the other. It can be plugged in only one way. The outlet on the wall must permit the use of such a plug.

Does the refurbished t7 work as good as a new t7?
I purchased two of these refurbished drives. After properly initializing and formatting one of them, it appears to work as well as a new drive. This was not true for the second drive - I struggled to get it to work, and then found that 7% of the sectors of the drive were bad. It now appears to be working, but I less confidence in it.

Does the external SSD come with a USB-C cable? I’m not sure if I have one.
It should come with two cables. One a usb c to c, and the second a usb c to a. Mine came in a little box "hidden" behind the drive. However, you need to test them with a drive known to be good. I found 3 of the 4 cables I received with two of these drives to be defective.

I just purchased this external ssd and tried to use it for the first time. It will not show up on my computer anywhere, except on the "eject" tray. Why can't my new laptop see or open it the file location?
I suspect that it needs to be initialized and then formatted - operations you can do from disk management. However, it could also be a bad cable. I had a similar experience with this refurbished drive.

Can I add storage?
Yes you can. However to do so requires cloning the existing drive to one that is larger, and then removing the existing drive and replacing it with the larger drive.

My version of this laptop came loaded with Windows 11 Home. I see that there is another version of this laptop that comes loaded with Windows 11 S, that imposes some restrictions making it more secure.

Yes it is. The 8GB of RAM it come with is soldered in, but there is an empty SO-DIMM slot where you can add additional RAM.
