Excellent Steelbook, mediocre movie

I am a big fan of the original Predator and Predator 2 films. The less said about the Alien Vs. Predator and Alien Vs. Predator: Requiem films, the better. So when they announced this film, The Predator, helmed by Shane Black (Hawkins from the original film and perhaps better known as the director of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and Iron Man 3), I was immediately intrigued. However, the end result fails to measure up to the original, Schwarzenegger action classic. Its not an awful movie, but temper your expectations going in.
The main draw here is the Best Buy exclusive steelbook. This is another great looking steelbook package that can only be obtained via Best Buy (online or in-store). The cover art is a really cool pop-art rendition of the unmasked Predator head, made up of numerous human skulls. Sadly, there is no back cover art with only a few symbols of the Predator language (fans will recognize these symbols/characters from the movie series).
Inside the package, you'll get the 4K disc, a blu-ray disc, and a redeemable digital copy. Pretty standard here. The 4K disc features really good video quality and excellent audio quality. The Dolby ATMOS track is excellent, making full use of the ATMOS channels in providing a superior listening experience.
I'm always going to suggest that folks pick up a quality steelbook release, and Best Buy provided numerous SB releases in 2018 that were well worth the effort to obtain. The Predator isn't going to make anybody's best-of-2018 release lists, but the Best Buy exclusive steelbook is a great release that I would strongly recommend picking up.

WWE 2K19 is good (but not quite great)

This years iteration of 2K's long-running wrestling series is a solid game, with great graphics and some nifty features. The gameplay is very similar to previous games, so don't expect massive changes here. The striking/grappling/reversal system does a decent job in simulating a wrestling match, though I'll always miss the system present in the old THQ/Aki WCW and WWF games. The MyCareer mode is great, with some nice WWE-style presentation and storylines. The Towers mode, ala Mortal Kombat, presents some interesting challenges and strange (seemingly out of place) modifiers. Showcase mode is back, and it is better than ever. The decision to feature Daniel Bryan here was the right one, and it feels amazing to relive seminal moments in the career of the leader of the Yes! movement.
There are a bunch of small fixes that make certain gameplay options more enjoyable. The developer reworked the mechanics of Steel Cage matches, with a new escaping the cage mini-game. Royal Rumble matches allow the user to set the entire order of entrance of the Superstars, which means that you can re-create some of the great Rumbles of yesteryear. The commentary remains laughably bad, leaving little hope that 2K will ever get it right here. The Create-A-Superstar suite is amazing as always, allowing considerable creativity when forging your own grapplers.
Rey Mysterio and Ronda Rousey were the pre-order bonus DLC characters. These two popular characters are must own, in my opinion. There will be future DLC (as always with wrestling games), though they will be free to Deluxe-version adopters. The roster is huge, but there are some curious holes (no NXT champion Tommaso Ciampa or NXT women's superstar Nikki Cross). In short, this game is a definite, must-have for WWE fans. While one would hope for a few more gameplay tweaks, the game is solid and ends up delivering a quality WWE experience.

A worthy sequel gets an awesome Steelbook

Sicario: Day of the Soldado is the sequel to one of 2015's best films, Sicario. That film was directed by Denis Villeneuve (Blade Runner 2049), written by Taylor Sheridan (Yellowstone) and starred Emily Blunt (A Quiet Place), Benicio del Toro (Guardians of the Galaxy), and Josh Brolin (Avengers: Infinity War). Villeneuve and Blunt are not part of the sequel, and they are missed. But Day of the Soldado (Spanish for Soldier) is still a good film, a worthy sequel, and it definitely gets me excited for future installments (a third film in the series is apparently in the works).
The Steelbook is amazing, one of the better looking Best Buy exclusives released in 2018 with fantastic artwork on the front and back covers. The package contains the movie in 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, regular Blu-ray, and digital form (via redemption code). The code will redeem for a Ultra HD download. Please note that the Dolby Atmos soundtrack is only available on the 4K disc. That said, the picture and audio quality is top notch on both the 4K and the regular Blu-ray. Reference-quality is a phrase often thrown around with impunity, but in this case, it rings true. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.
This movie is definitely worth checking out. While I didn't enjoy it quite as much as the first film, its still a good story with some excellent performances (del Toro and Brolin). And if you can find the Best Buy exclusive steelbook, it is definitely an amazing package and well worth a purchase.

Marvel's Avengers is back....in 4K!

Its back! In beautiful 4K no less. The summer blockbuster that brought Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, and the rest of the Avengers together for the first time has shown up alongside the release of Avengers: Infinity War in a really awesome looking steelbook exclusive to Best Buy. When Avengers first came out on Blu-ray, Best Buy had an exclusive MetalPak (not a Steelbook). In my opinion, this steelbook is much nicer than the original release MetalPak and the re-release Blu-ray steelbook from earlier in 2018. The 4K UHD disc is really nice looking, although the movie was reportedly finished in 2K. Don't let be something that dissuade potential buyers, as the image is really good. Fans will really appreciate Disney's efforts on the video quality. Admittedly, the audio isn't quite perfect. Its good, even great in some spots, but uneven in others. Especially noticeable with the Dolby ATMOS track. Don't know why Disney has such trouble nailing the high-end soundtrack for its movies. Still, as long as you're not expecting a reference-quality sound experience, the Avenger's audio is very good.
There are no extras on the 4K disc, but the included blu-ray disc has all of the extras from the original blu-ray release (in 2012). There is also a digital redemption code included in the package and it redeemed in UHD through Movies Anywhere.
The Avengers is a great movie and well worth a purchase on 4K. If you can get your hands on the limited, Best Buy exclusive steelbook, you won't be disappointed.

Annihilation is a must see movie for science fiction fans. The film is directed by Alex Garland, who made his directorial debut with 2015's Ex Machina. This is an intelligent film, posing serious questions to the audience and not bending over backwards to deliver easy answers. It has a great cast, headlined by Natalie Portman and featuring Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gina Rodriguez, Tessa Thompson, Tuva Novotny and Oscar Isaac. It is based on a popular book series, Jeff VanderMeer’s best-selling Southern Reach Trilogy, but the movie really stands on its own and is not entirely beholden to the source material.
The 4K disc version is exclusive to Best Buy, so don't go looking for it anyplace else. The 4K is definitely worth buying, as the film offers some really fantastic visuals. The package also comes with the standard blu-ray and a digital redemption copy. Don't miss out on picking up this film. Fans of Garland's work won't be disappointed.

The Best Movie of 2017....Awesome Steelbook too

Yeah, Blade Runner 2049 failed to set the box office on fire. But that is more of a commentary on movie audiences, and not an indication of the movies quality. Simply put, it is amazing and people owe it to themselves to check out the extremely worthy follow-up to Ridley Scott's all-time classic. Denis Villeneuve is an amazing film director and has delivered a sequel that stands head and shoulders above most, if not all, major studio releases of the past decade.
As for the steelbook, you can't go wrong picking up this beautiful exclusive release from Best Buy. This package contains the 4K and Blu-ray discs, as well as a digital redemption copy. Sorry 3-D fans, but you'll have to look for a 3-D disc elsewhere (also an exclusive release). The artwork is great, and is different from the standard, 2-D steelbook release. Although, as a huge Blade Runner fan, it's definitely worth it to hunt down a copy of both versions. Both versions sold very quickly, so if you can get your hands on one of these exclusive Best Buy steelbooks, don't pass up the opportunity.

Alan Silvestri delivers again!

Let me start off by saying that I am a big fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and a big fan of the accompanying movie scores. I was very please to learn that Alan Silvestri was returning to compose the scores for Avengers 3 (Infinity War) and Avengers 4 (not yet titled). I feel as though the original Avengers movie score is the best of the bunch (not taking anything away from any of the other movie scores). While I can't say that this score is better than that one, it is still absolutely amazing. This one is a must have for fans of the movie and I can't wait to see what Silvestri delivers next year. Its over a hour's worth of music and awesome from start to finish.
Also, I was really glad to see this score get a physical disc release and I was really glad to be able to purchase it from Best Buy.com. I'm not a fan of digital-only releases and will continue to support buying discs as long as they are made.

First off, let me say that I really enjoyed Solo: A Star Wars Story and was disappointed that it didn't find an audience following the debacle that was The Last Jedi. But we're here to talk about this soundtrack. It was really great to have John Williams contribute to the score (though it is only one track, the first). John Powell makes a solid entry to the Star Wars musical universe. I liked his previous work on the Jason Bourne movies and the How to Train Your Dragon series, so I was looking forward to seeing what he came through with for Star Wars fans. It did not disappoint.
Really glad that this soundtrack got a physical disc release and really glad that I was able to buy it from Best Buy.com. Call me a "dinosaur", but I still favor having a physical disc over a digital-only release.

Cheesy title for my review aside (sorry folks), this soundtrack is amazing. I've always been a big fan of the MCU movie scores, but this one is one of the best. Mark Mothersbaugh did some really great work here. It doesn't sound like the other Thor soundtracks, but it really fits the quirky nature of the movie. I'm really glad that I was able to add it to my collection.
Also, I'm really glad that this soundtrack got a physical disc release and that I was able to purchase it through Best Buy.com. Call me old-fashioned, but I really like being able to purchase and have the physical disc. There have been a couple of digital only releases, which really bothers me as a collector and enthusiast.
