I have played this game relentlessly since it came out and simply put in my almost 40 years of gaming, this game is in my top 3 for greatest games of all time. The depth, detail, graphics, missions, variety, open world, is truly stunning. I have never played a game before where I have enjoyed a sunrise or sunset and literally stopped moving just to watch the sun go up or down over a mountain. Just a tremendous game. The long development was well worth it.

This is one of the most exciting updates to an EA game I have seen in awhile. If you have gotten used to the "Roster Updates" every year you will like the freshness of this game. I play mainly in Franchise mode and that has a lot of updates in it giving it a fresh feel. But also for the first time I am really enjoying playing online either in 3's or as a whole team.
I highly recommend this one, of course hockey fans will enjoy, but even non-hockey fans should be able to enjoy the richness of this game. (Think of FIFA, I am not a soccer guy but enjoy playing FIFA)

Good Game but Lacking Fresh Feel

So I really like the 2k basketball series, it plays well, has an excellent online community and offers a variety of game play. Have a couple of complaints with the game, playing your my career if you refuse to spend extra money and buy VC is a real grind. This is compounded by the lack of quickly jumping into games but the overdone cut-scenes, interviews and non-sense that have nothing to do with your character.
Second, there is the VC (Virtual Currency) as a whole. 2k has gone with the model of needing VC to do everything, and to earn it through game-play takes time, a tremendous amount of it, to earn minimal rewards. Believe my while your getting your butt kicked while your character is rated a 61 the temptation is there is to get the credit card out and buy VC to get past the grind. Then once you spend it on one character it starts all over for a second one. Be sure you know what character position you want to create when you start.
Overall plays well but there is some gripes with it.
