The BEST streaming "box" ever made

I have owned at least a dozen different devices for playing back my digital media since around 2008. I started by ripping my DVDs so my kids couldn't damage the originals. Also playing back home videos from devices back to my early cell phone (shutters). But every device I ran it against there were always compatibility issues. Having to recompress, reconvert videos became a chore until I discovered KODI. The original Nvidia Shield came preinstalled with KODI and it is wonderful if you have your own digital movie collection. There is really no format or compression that I have come across this will not play.
In addition to this you can also use this device as a PLEX server, which basically does about the same but transcodes these video files for playback remotely. I do have issues with PLEX in it's overall compatibility but natively streaming files, combined with the Nvidia Shield it does the job.
On top of that the Nvidia Shield is THE most powerful set top "box" streaming device meaning it will be quick and responsive now, but not be outdated any time soon. In fact, the original Nvidia Shield is still updated and works very well still today. It also works great as a Steam box for streaming content from a local gaming PC. And the Tegra X1 chip inside means that it will handle any compatible game you throw at it (so long as you have a wired or wireless game controller). It also supports the Nvidia game streaming service where you can stream PC quality games remotely from Nvidia's servers should you have the bandwidth available.
So the question becomes why buy this, over say on older Nvidia Shield? The answer, this new cylinder shaped model (and the Pro model) have a little more processing power and can upconvert 720p, and 1080p content to look more like 4K content on the fly, and it actually works well. On top of that this new model supports Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos which were not supported before as they are a hardware upgrade vs software alone. So if 1080p is good enough for you and or you don't care about Dolby Atmos or Vision then look into the old player, but not too much as this model is priced really well.
I have been using this box since it's release daily and love it. The new remote is also a cool feature, that with the accompanying app, you can make the remote sound if lost in the couch (something that happened frequently with the older remote's very thin design).
All around I can't say enough good things about this device in a single online review. If you are wanting to stream content to a TV, no television purchase is complete without an Nvidia Shield to go alongside it, period.

Great Marvel movie with a great cast

Guardians of the Galaxy came out at a point where Marvel movies where coming out fairly regularly. And yet this movie it seems more than any before it (but not after it, Ragnarok) relied a lot on humor of the content. It pokes fun at the characters and content but in a good and entertaining way with a group of mismatched heroes destined to save the universe.
Guardians of the Galaxy looks great on this upconverted 2K with HDR release. And the included Movies Anywhere code is great for allowing you to stream it in any quality available to you depending on your streaming hardware and internet connection. This includes watching the movie in Dolby Vision. Though like pretty much every other 4K Disney release would have been nice to have also had on disc. Still this is the definitive way to watch this movie at home or while on the go, and I highly recommend it.

Doctor Strange is a unique movie that has the distinction of also calling itself a Marvel movie. After Dr Steven Strange is injured in an accident he searches out powers in this world to help him overcome his own physical shortcomings. The concepts and the special effects are amazing and this movie really stands up well on it's own as just a great movie outside of the Marvel universe.
The movie looks amazing in 4K (or rather its upconverted 2K) with HDR. A Movies Anywhere code is also included allowing you to stream the film in up to Dolby Vision, should you have the necessary hardware.

Great Disney movie

Princess and the Frog is a great movie in a lot of ways. I love the story, the setting, and the characters. It also has the distinction of being the last (or at least most recent) animated Disney film. While most other films have gone the CG route, this retains the classic look of Disney films. The presentation in 4K HDR looks great from the disc and a Movies Anywhere code is included in the case so you can stream in any quality up to UHD. Be aware that like most other Disney (and most other studios) this is a 2K upconversion, so you aren't getting the full 4K experience. HDR adds a lot to the presentation, but it's something to be aware of. All around I love this movie, and at this point this is the definitive way to watch it at home. The artwork on this Best Buy exclusive steelbook is also very good.

Great looking, but simplistic design

The Zacian and Zamazenta Switch Lite is the least colorful of the Switch Lite consoles, but the artwork on the back looks great. And it is the only official Switch hardware to have colorful joysticks. The grey of the console does look slightly different in person, to me looking like the light grey of the original NES (on a non-yellowed console of course). Basically it's slightly darker looking than the pictures do it justice. Highly recommended console, though be aware all Switch Lite consoles can't connect to a television and do have a slightly smaller screen. Still if portability and size are important, then the Switch Lite might be right for you.

Cars is such a great movie, and a favorite of my toddler. The first movie is a classic where the sequels and follow up movies are good but just not as great. This premium steelbook UHD set is a great value and the premium way to watch at home in HDR. This dock is very convenient and easy to use. You will need to use your existing Nintendo Switch power supply as one is not included. Early in the Nintendo Switch's life there were other docks that could damage your Switch that were found to do so because the power supply provided too much voltage that it would damage the Switch. So with this dock using the original Nintendo power supply this won't be an issue.

Wreck it Ralph has so much gaming nostalgia written into it from classic characters like Pac-Man, Sonic, Mario (by name) and so many others. The story is a great tale of friendship that does a lot of things right. The movie looks great on a UHD display with HDR and plays natively at 2K being upscaled to 4K. That's pretty much it. 2 of the buttons stick, not because of a sticky substance, but because they aren't centered properly in the shell. You can feel them rub up against it, and they make audible noises when they're pushed from the unsticking. It is very annoying. Don't bother with their "refurbished" garbage.

Clean it

With any gaming controller if you take a clean toothbrush, slightly dampened with water and scrub around the buttons you should be able to fix this. Be sure to not use much water and then dry it when done. There is a rubber membrane under each button with a slight lip around the edge to prevent small amounts of water, dirt or soda from touching the circuitry. Scrubbing all sides of the button, maybe twice after rinsing the toothbrush should fix the problem. I've used this method to fix otherwise filthy game controllers without needing to resort to opening them to clean them.

Seems like a fine product, but I returned this unopened. I purchased this thinking it would do motion tracking for games like Just Dance, however it appears this is only for capturing video, not mocap.

Smart reason I returned mine. This should have been branded that is for "YouTube or Twitch Streaming ONLY". So many reviewers got this camera yet of dozens of reviews only one I saw mentioned this. VR and other functions of the other games won't support this camera. This seems like a huge oversight, so hopefully this changes in a firmware update. But for now if you don't stream, skip this peripheral.

Can this be used for audio commands? For instance, the Xbox Kinect allowed you to say "Xbox Pause" while watching a movie...
No it can't. It's sole purpose is to stream on YouTube and Twitch, period.

What camera do I need to get to play Just Dance 2020/21 with the PS5? Looks like this one doesn't serve that purpose. Thanks.
Either of the past PS4 cameras will work great. I'm currently using the cylinder shapped V2 camera, works great for Just Dance and PSVR.

Will I be able to connect this to a Nintendo switch lite?
You would need a third party bluetooth adapter to connect in the USB charge port on the bottom of the Switch Lite. I'm not fully certain these work on the Lite over the standard Switch. So no it won't work natively.
My recommendation is the Switch Pro controller. Though if you're on a budget the PowerA wireless controller is cheaper dealing, missing some features like rumble, a built in 48 hr battery, and amiibo support, but is an otherwise solid $40 remote that occasionally goes on sale.

I recently bought this controller for my Xbox one and went to set it up when I got home with my rechargeable batteries, but they don’t seem to work. Did they make it to where older rechargeable batteries don’t work with the new controllers?
The form factor of the back is slightly different so you'll need a new charger as the back cover is different. That said older rechargeable packs can be charged separately and then installed in the controller.
Another option is to buy a new Xbox Series rechargeable battery pack (using the cover the controller came with) an then charge it via USB-C. This time around there are two sets of battery pins inside. I'm guessing that it won't charge older packs or rechargeable AA batteries via USB-C so that people wouldn't damage their controller by accidentally charging standard AA batteries, hence the second set of charging pins.

So I tested this myself, and No it does not work. The Xbox Series controller has terminals for standard or rechargeable AA batteries to power the controller. But this time there are some smaller pins for a rechargeable battery pack and these will charge a battery from the USB-C port. But as they are between where AA batteries (rechargeable or not) sit they won't charge rechargeable AA batteries. My guess is this decision was made so that someone didn't inadvertently try to "recharge" non-rechargeable AA batteries as that would be a problem.

Can I turn off the British Accents? (British accents make my very annoyed, it is a pet peeve of mine)
You can quiet them and turn on subtitles. I get it, some of the Scottish accents are pretty thick and hard to understand. No offense to anyone, I'm sure they think the same of some of us Americans.
