Good video game comedy

Free Guy had a difficult position to take, being a video game movie in 2021. We've had several movies take on the genre such as Ready Player One (based on the novel) but with so many genres of games, it's difficult to have a movie universally accepted with all of the different tropes even within its own genre.
Free Guy takes the Battle Royal genre and takes a spin on it with a story involving two young game developers that suspect a large corporation may have stolen their code. The comedy is good but largely for a teen and above audience, something the Battle Royal genre caters to anyway. Ryan Reynolds performance is great as is Taika Waititi who steal the show. So while it's not my favorite movie, it was a good time and worth watching a few times.

Amiibo cards for Animal Crossing are great and add the ability to bring islanders to your island as well as being cool collectible cards. The blind bag component means that if you are looking to get unique cards you are best to buy several from the same retailer in one batch as your chances of getting unique cards is higher. With scalpers and resellers, many retailers are limiting the number you can buy, sometimes down to just one pack that makes collecting difficult. I ended up buying a pack on Amazon and Walmart to find I got mostly duplicates of packs I already bought from Best Buy.

Having played every mainline entry in the series, (I missed Blood Dragon and Predators) I can say that Far Cry 6 is a great new entry in the series. It takes what I enjoy about the series and just adds to it. While the critics want something new, some episodic story, I just want more of the same. And that's where 6 delivers. The world of Anton Castillo is vast with many enemies and bases to take out. The addition of horses is great and adds a new layer of customization and strategy to the game. If you enjoyed any of the previous entries you should get a lot out of this game.

While it is great to have an original 2D Metroid game for the first time in nearly 20 years, the Special Edition may or not be worthwhile to you. It features the physical game in a hardshell case, a series of thick cards with cover art for each of the mainline games, as well as a great art book featuring art from the series, especially the new game.
The game itself is great, fluid, and fun. It's easily I would say the best in the series and worth picking up in some form or another. For the genre, it inspired this "Metroidvania" title sets some new standards and as it's name implies adds a sense of dread. The EMIs you encounter can only be defeated with a perfectly timed button press and you are intentionally trying to avoid them for a majority part of the game. As you traverse the map gaining new abilities and unlocking new locations everything from the music to the graphics, to the experience are top-notch. This is easily one of the best games I have played in a long time.

Having grown up as a Nintendo fan, I would sneak over to my cousin's house across the street to play Zelda on the NES as a kid. The Game and Watch consoles were a little before my time, but I do remember seeing one year after they came out and for their time they were amazing mobile experiences. Never did I think as a kid that I would one day be able to carry around a Game and Watch with a full NES Zelda experience on it.
While the concept today may seem uninteresting to the younger generation of gamers, this is a nice nod to the rich history of Nintendo and Zelda that makes a great collectible.
As far as what is on offer you get the two Zelda NES titles as well as the Gameboy version of Link's Awakening (not the color GBC version available on the same cart). On top of that you get a cool clock screen saver that you can control Link at any time, as well as a Zelda version of the Game and Watch Vermin title. The quality is good with the gameplay is great. The buttons are mushy like they were back then, but the picture is great for such a small screen. The sound is good, though mono. And features like a rechargeable battery with USB-C cable included are nice features.
All around for Zelda fans this is a must-have. For those lukewarm to the series or with other ways to play them (NES, Virtual Console, etc, etc) then this might be a pass as the asking price of $50.

The Sony Playstation 5 is an amazing game console, and since it's release in 2020 a very difficult item to find for a reasonable price. The console itself is a huge improvement over the previous Sony line with the PS4 and PS4 Pro. Gone are the loud jet fans that wind up quickly and are apparent during any gaming session. The PS5 sports a gen 4 NVME SSD drive that is light years beyond the spinning discs of the last-gen, so boot times are almost non-existent in many titles. The addition of 4K up to 120fps are welcome with the new hardware. Also, optional ray tracing adds a performance hit to many games so many offer performance or quality settings. But still, options are good.
As far as a games library, the library is starting to build, with many games patching to add PS5 features. With this the internal storage (and with a recent update optional internal NVME upgradability) is the only way to play PS5 games. Fortunately, if you do have a large library you can connect a USB 3 hard drive to store and play PS4 titles, as well as store and transfer back later PS5 titles you don't currently have room for. This is great for the games that you might not want to redownload because of data caps, but plan to get back to later.
As far as accessories, bring all of your current PS4 games and controllers as they are nearly all supported. In fact, PS4 Dual Shock controllers pair and work with PS4 titles on the system. And many of the issues with PS4 titles have been worked out on PS5, so unstable FPS or other issues with many games have been patched to just perform better on PS5. I can't think of a single game that performs worse, so for me the PS5 was a replacement for my PS4 Pro. Also the PS5 camera is nearly worthless as it only supports web streaming and not PSVR, so hold onto your old PS4 Camera.
For new accessories, I highly recommend grabbing the Sony dual controller charger and maybe a second controller if you play local multiplayer on any PS5 games. But that is about it.
All around the Sony Playstation 5 is a great console that feels next-gen especially if you have been with Sony for a while now. Unfortunately, these will likely be hard to find for at least another year, but when you do find one it will be worth the wait.

Great upgraded Switch console

While the Switch OLED Model isn't the Pro model many of had hoped for it does offer a few nice benefits that are great for newcomers and possibly worth the upgrade for others. Basically, the big upgrade for $50 over the basic v2 red box Switch that has been out for a while is the new 7" OLED over the older 6.2" LCD screen. The colors pop, contrast, and refresh rate are improved. There is also no visible ghosting that was apparent on the older screen. So as many reviews have said for mobile users this is great and a huge worthwhile upgrade.
Now for those like myself that primarily play in docked mode. I rarely see this mentioned even in professional reviews of the console, but the internal system memory has been upgraded from 32GB to 64GB. This is pretty big. While you can buy an external MicroSD memory card for expansion, you can only have save data on the internal storage. With games like NBA 2K series requiring 5GB per save and multiple profiles requiring multiple GB per save with games like Minecraft, more memory is very welcome. This is especially true in that on the 32GB model with the OS the user only had access to around 26GB of this memory.
Aside from this the unit also features a new dock that has an integrated LAN port. This is a bitter sweet upgrade as apparently the LAN port shares some of the same wiring as a 4K HDMI port that was added in a custom configuration. So while it could have been interesting to have limited 4K support on the Switch, the LAN port is welcome, even if it also cost one of the two internal USB ports.

Glad to have made the switch

Short story, my wife as a teacher had been on a Verizon plan that kept getting more and more expensive (despite us having a "discount"). So we switched to MetroPCS and at $30/mo largely had decent coverage but despite swapping several phones and even buying ($300) phones outside of their service (a service that gives you a basic phone every six months if you take advantage of it), we were still getting missed text messages. Skip ahead and my daughter now needs a phone. A coworker tried and switched his entire family to Mint mobile so I thought we would give it a try. I'm glad we did. The service after just a few weeks has been great, and since we have our own devices the bill is low. Currently, they are even doubling the service time frame, so this three months for new customers is now six months. And even after that service will only be $15/mo per line. The issues with missed texts also seems to be fixed, which is great. It was something that we had even tried adjusting the phones APN with MetroPCS, yet it works without issue on Mint.

But after hearing a few other reviews say that Square Enix seems to have learned from their mistakes I decided to give this game a chance, and I'm glad I did. That's pretty much it. 2 of the buttons stick, not because of a sticky substance, but because they aren't centered properly in the shell. You can feel them rub up against it, and they make audible noises when they're pushed from the unsticking. It is very annoying. Don't bother with their "refurbished" garbage.

With any gaming controller if you take a clean toothbrush, slightly dampened with water and scrub around the buttons you should be able to fix this. Be sure to not use much water and then dry it when done. There is a rubber membrane under each button with a slight lip around the edge to prevent small amounts of water, dirt or soda from touching the circuitry. Scrubbing all sides of the button, maybe twice after rinsing the toothbrush should fix the problem. I've used this method to fix otherwise filthy game controllers without needing to resort to opening them to clean them.

Seems like a fine product, but I returned this unopened. I purchased this thinking it would do motion tracking for games like Just Dance, however it appears this is only for capturing video, not mocap.

Smart reason I returned mine. This should have been branded that is for "YouTube or Twitch Streaming ONLY". So many reviewers got this camera yet of dozens of reviews only one I saw mentioned this. VR and other functions of the other games won't support this camera. This seems like a huge oversight, so hopefully this changes in a firmware update. But for now if you don't stream, skip this peripheral.

Yes, Best Buy's NBA JAM cabinet has the light up deck protector. It lights up from a button press in the upper right corner. Can select between about six colors as well as one that flows between them or you can simply power it off. The effect is pretty cool with some parts of the deck printed on the plexiglass in white like P1, P2, pass, etc able to light up and be easily seen. This version is pretty cool.

How much does Best Buy charge to set the arcade game up ?
Not sure, though Geek Squad may offer a service. This is similar to easier IKEA furniture to setup. Basically should take 1-2 hours to setup. Requires no glue just a Philip's and maybe flat head screwdriver. I've setup over eight of these and the only tricky part is the monitor brackets. Just loosely tighten them until fully in place then tighten them down. Aside from that everything else can tighten down as installing (just don't overtighten as this is pressboard). Also you may need to be a ninja at chopping the box apart to recycle it. Its large but similar to a large television in size.

Can I put this in a switch lite?
Yep, the Switch Lite will play all games the original Switch can with a few exceptions like 1-2-Switch requiring additional joy-con controllers. And the Labo series are incompatible as they can't house the Switch Lite for playing their games.

I'm buying a Switch Lite, which I'm almost positive plays Switch games, but I'm wondering how many megabytes of storage it takes.
The base game is fairly small taking around 512MB. Either way this game requires 1GB save files for every profile that plays the game. These block off storage for level creations that are unfortunately like all other save data locked to the internal 32GB storage. This is a problem if you have kids with multiple friends that play with them. Even though these friends dont save levels they need local profiles that lock off 1GB each for this game until you delete them.
Owning this game on physical is nice so that with multiple consoles you can share between them. The better feature is that you can then download the new cross platform game that doesn't block off 1GB per user but rather just what you save so save file sizes are rather small.

Does the Nintendo Switch version have infinite generating worlds like in Java edition on PC? Or is the world generation limited?
Yes it's based off of the Java version. If you own this version of the game you can download a free copy of the newer game that is crossplatform.

Can you play two players on one console?
You can play up to four players via split screen though you will need additional controllers for anyone beyond the first player. Also this game cannot be played with a single joy-con, you'll need both or a Pro controller for each player.
