the software explicitly blocks you from being able to watch blu rays with a VGA or DVI output from graphics card on a desktop machine due to some digital rights management bs (not sure about xp laptops but I'd say most are doubtful, also not sure about the later cards w/ hdmi ports that are windows xp compatible & not sure if the drive will work with a different software program either)
other than that it seems like the best external blu ray drive available

i have always avoided the kindle and never had any interest whatsoever. As I've started trying to build a collection of books I realized the major downside of how much space they take up...broke down and ordered this new 10th anniversary kindle.
