So far, this does pretty much everything I need it to do and it's the best set I've owned. I'm not even slightly a gamer, nor is anyone in my family. We watch a lot of movies and stream the usual suspects, but I'm the only real 'videophile' in the fam. The blacks are legitimately black and there is no blooming of any kind. Color is a bit cooler than I'd seen on previous Sony sets, but after a week or so of getting used to it, I can see that it's more natural than any I've owned. I've seen complaints of it being too dim- and I didn't find that to be the case at all. We watch in a somewhat light-controlled room or at night. There are titles I own that are timed darker- mostly horror movies- that I wouldn't necessarily want to throw on in the middle of the day anyway, so looking at those at night... the black reveal plenty of detail and provide a thoroughly cinematic experience. Good upscaling for lower-res sources pretty much belongs to Sony so if you watch a lot of older movies on dvd and blu-ray in addition to 4k UHD, you'll be impressed. I've had a couple of blu-ray titles I've watched that I could almost swear are legit 4K. I went with this 77" model which is about as big as our living room will allow and I couldn't be happier with how it performs. The interface is simple and intuitive. I've had no glitchy issues at all... after realizing that 'Auto-sync' should be disabled if you are using an A/V receiver and want your sound set to 'Pure Direct' to hear a sound source as intended. The auto-sync function had the tv commanding the receiver to set itself to Multi-ST- which fills all of the speakers in my modest 5.1 system. But if you're a purist, you don't want Casablanca or The Bride of Frankenstein coming out of all five speakers. That said, everything else here works a treat and it's about as good a bang you'll get for your buck.

I have enough streaming services, but this was a good add-on to the purchase of my tv and stand. If you're looking to sample Apple TV and have a larger ticket item to buy, this seems like a good freebie. I'd like to add that I enjoy getting 5 dollar coupons from Amazon for writing reviews for things I don't need. Welp, so long!

This is an outstanding transfer. I liked it even better than Criterion's recent attempt and that's saying something. Much has been made of the blueish tint to Mars in the opening frames. Criterion attempted to correct that and were mostly successful, but the 1080pness of it just can't match what a solid UHD can do. Colors are vibrant, blacks are black, and the image is well-defined. I've never seen this movie look better and I've been looking at it regularly since the days when it would regular air on WGN back in the late 70's and early 80's. The only major caveat is the lack of the original mono which can be found on the Criterion, but I'm a big fan of what Ben Burtt has done with this modern, but faithful remix. It's highly effective. If you can look past less-than-red Mars and the lack of mono, this disc is outstanding.
*Course, I just remembered that I'm writing a review for a disc that you're likely not going to be able to buy from Best Buy. Alas.

It's great. The final act doesn't 100% live up to the premise for me, but the picture has atmosphere for days and it rewards repeat viewings. Many of Nolan's regular crew are on board, so the production design, acting and photography are top-shelf. The disc itself sounds great and looks exceptional to my eyes. I notice some anomalies in high contrast scenes that I'm pretty sure have everything to do with the excessive blooming on my tv which I need to remedy. If yours is HDR capable and does blacks well, you should be in for a treat.

The movie is great. You already know that. It's the horror film to which all others are compared. The transfer is also great. Until the last 15 minutes. I love Friedkin and I certainly grant that he has earned the right to do whatever he wants with subsequent editions of the films he has directed, but I'd call the desaturated and apparently resaturated business in the final act a failed experiment that appears even more egregious in light of how natural and period-appropriate the rest of the film looks. The inclusion of the mono track goes a long way towards mitigating my disappointment with the choices made in the color timing of that final bit, however, and does through two speakers what the newer remix can't do with 7.1: it gets under your skin without being distracting- I have no idea where the 28 mph winds are coming from in Reagan's bedroom on the 7.1. Choose the mono and rest easy.
All of this said, this was Friedkin's final sign-off on how this film should look before he passed. I give it respect for that reason and I'm guessing this will be it for how this title is going to look and sound for the foreseeable future. If you're 4k capable, it's more than worth it. But it could have been transcendent.

If you're here, you already know the movie and its pedigree. As to the presentation... it looks divine. This may be one of the most filmlike and faithful UHDs I own. The color- of which this movie takes full advantage, is sublime. The audio tracks are all solid- none of the pitch issues that plagued the Scream Factory blu are here. For my money, original theatrical audio is almost always the way to go and it sounds full abd dynamic here. If you even slightly like this movie, this presentation is well worth it.

I remember a time when The Fog, Prince of Darkness, Christine and They Live were not thought of very well. Nevermind the disastrous initial reception of The Thing. It seems like every few years time catches up to Carpenter's movies and they finally get the audience they deserve. My guess is either this or Village of the Damned will be next. The problem with L.A. is how different the tone of it is to New York, but once you realize that's the point and that he is a master of Tone above all else, this movie becomes really rewarding and it's legit pretty hilarious. The UHD looks beautiful. I supplemented my Scream Factory blu with it and I'm solid with this title. Make sure the barcode on the back is yellow as the initial pressing with a white barcode had a sound error that affects the surround channels.

There is way too much DNR that unfortunately sells this classic film short. You're better off with the Criterion both for the more detailed transfer (not coincidentally approved by GDT) and the weslth of insightful extras that feature GDT as the key participant.

I'm using these as surrounds and they pair extremely well with the other Sony Core series speakers. They are ideal for atmos but angke perfectly for my side surrounds in a 5.1 syste.

If this tv is connected to avr and speakers, can the tv be used as the center channel?
It does have this option in the sound settings. It will sound thinner than a discrete center channel- not to mention if you watch anything older that is strictly 1-channel mono, but it's there.
