If Star Fox met No Man's Sky

Starlink is a return to the toys to life genre that has died out in recent years. Ubisoft teamed up with Nintendo for the Switch version of the game to include the cast of Star Fox into the game. At first I thought it would be some side after thought or cosmetic implementation but luckily that is not the case. Ubisoft has treated the Star Fox IP with as much care as they did with Mario and Rabbids. The game has a god amount of action, voice acting, nice graphics, several missions including those related to Star Fox and seamless traversal from planet to space and best of all you can play the entire game in your Arwing with Fox McCloud as you try to stop Grax and the Forgotten Legion from conquering the Atlas Star System. The Switch Starter pack comes with Fox, Another pilot, Arwing Ship, and two weapons.

This is a very good compilation with Pac Man VS. and Championship 2 having 2 player modes in addition to some classics like Pac-Man and Galaga. Having these titles portable is something I could not have imaged back in the day.

Become the Blue Bomber in Mega Man 11 for Nintendo Switch. Modern updates to the classic series such as the new Double Gear system let you boost Mega Man's speed and power. The revitalized art style, game modes and obtainable powers make Mega Man 11 fun for new and old players.

Mega Man is as iconic in gaming history as is Mario, Sonic and other characters. This is the 11th iteration on the main line Mega Man games. Once again Mega Man is tasked with taking down the robot masters trying to destroy the world. Capcom has changed the look of the game to a more cell shaded/cartoon look but the mechanics and gameplay are true to classic Mega Man. In an attempt to make 11 more modern Capcom has introduced the double gear mechanic and a few new tricks to spice up the gameplay. The robots themselves have cleaver gimmicks and overall this game is a fun ride that hearkens to the old school days.

Avengers Infinity War is the culmination of 10 years of storytelling in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Thanos, father of Gamora from the Guardians of the Galaxy wages war against the universe and threatens to wipe out half of life in the universe with the infinity stones. This movie is a superhero dream come true with just about every superhero from previous films making appearances and action set pieces with incredible team-ups that will make any child or comic book fan happy. The Blu ray looks good with bright and crisp images and an engaging audio soundtrack. The extras while lacking, does have an informative commentary track by the Russo brothers that does a good job of explaining how aspects of the story and script came together. Overall I would highly recommend this if you have been a fan of the cinematic universe for the past 10 years. What the Russo brothers managed to accomplish with this movie is nothing short of a miracle. Marvel has proven once again why they are the Titans of Hollywood.

Capcom has finally released the Mega Man X games. The collection is divided into 2 collections. On Switch Mega Man X collection 1 is on cart and then they give you a download code to download collection 2 from the Nintendo E-Shop. It's for that very reason why I am docking a star for the review. I can't imagine it being to difficult to put collection 1 and 2 on a 16 GB or smaller cart. X Box One and PS4 get both collections on separate disks but Switch owners buying physical just get the first game physically and have to download the second collection. I don't understand why Capcom keeps doing this other than trying to get more money out of the consumer. As for the games itself collection 1 is the star of the show with Mega Man X games 1-4. The museum mode has an amazing collection of bonus content from box art for all the games, figurines made, commercials from the games releases and an animated short film. The menus are smooth and there is a wealth of content including X Challenge mode that has you fighting bosses, 2 at a time from the various games mixed up. The only game I found to be almost unplayable was Mega Man X 7. Overall the collection holds up and there is some great added content. If you ever played Mega Man X and enjoyed it you owe it to yourself to pick this collection up. Mega man 7 aside I would recommend this game.

Sonic Mania Plus is an enhanced version of the Sonic Mania game that released digitally last year. For this release not only have they made the game physical with an old school Genesis reversible cover but they have included an art book with characters and designs from the game. The game now has Mighty the Armadillo and Ray the Flying Squirrel as playable characters and a new Encore mode which can be played with any character and they added Angel Island Zone to the game. There are several improvements and other features added to the game including new bonus levels. Overall Sonic Mania Plus is the type of game I wish the 3D Sonic games would take notes from. If you are an old school Sonic Fan you will love this game. It is a love letter to all things 2D Sonic.

Square-Enix has managed to create a Switch Exclusive RPG that has the charm of the 16 bit era (SNES) and manages to bring it into 2018 with a visual style and artistry that makes you wonder why this wasn't done sooner. They are calling it a 2.5 D engine. The characters are 2D but move in a 3D world and map. Octopath Travel allows you to play 8 different characters, each with their own story and skills. this game stands out as a Switch highlight in 2018.

Mario Tennis is a fun game that is trying to go back to its roots with a few modern twists to make the game fun. The game is also online enabled with tournaments that allow you to unlock new characters and gear by participating in the monthly tournaments. There is a story mode though its not the most engaging mode in the game. As of late September this game will require a Nintendo Online Membership subscription to continue to play online. Right now its free to play online.

Activision has ported the Crash Bandicoot trilogy to switch with a few bonus levels added. They have managed to clean up the original games graphically and with tighter controls than the originals. The games in Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy are fun platform games from the past.
