Can you please confirm if this is the 2019 version of this product? The Denon website specifies 2019 on the product page but I don't see this on the Best Buy page. https://usa.denon.com/us/product/hometheater/receivers/avrs950h

I believe it is the 2019, I think the older models ended with a different number, I looked at it last year. Easiest way to find out is to shoot demon an email and ask. HTH

Confused. What is this item good for? What is its purpose? So an item (iPhone) gets powered via headphone jack?

This is for connecting headphones to a newer iPhone. They did away with headphone port to make them less likely to be damaged from water intrusion. This plugs in the charging port and allows you to still use your old corded headphones.

Do they have ambient sound like airpods or the Samsung

If you mean can you still hear ambient noise…that depends. If your volume is low then yes you can. They tend to block out the ambient noise for me which is what I prefer.
