Dead speaker out of the box

It may or may not sound good, but instead of being able to experience what cost almost $2,000, I get to hear an endless series of beeps as the setup fails to complete because one of the speakers cannot power on. Sony customer service was very polite, but they couldn't fix the issue and could only offer to have me pack up the entire system and mail it to them (an additional hassle).
There is no excuse for a product like this is be DOA, and with everything out of stock, I can't swap it out for a different unit. Sony will check/repair them, but I'm not thrilled with owning such an unreliable product going forward. Not after all the hype videos and breathless promotional promises.
Nice job, Sony.

Nobody should have ANY doubt about the picture quality and build quality here - the only real question is whether to get this over the cheaper LG. The Sony was worth it for two main reasons: the Android TV capabilities and (most of all) the audio technology.
Android TV has come a long way from its sloooow previous version, and it now provides a high-quality experience, especially if you have an Android phone. The only downside would be if you have a ton of iTunes TV shows and no Apple TV device, but that's a pretty narrow set of circumstances.
The real appeal was the acoustic surface tech that turns the screen itself into a speaker and provides strong, centered sound without the need for any kind of sound bar. Saves space and cost and hassle, and it sounds fantastic. The image processing and upscaling tech is also regarded as top-notch, though I'm not technically informed enough to speak further on those.
TL;DR: Fantastic picture and sound, useful OS, worth the price even over the cheaper LGs.

A great piece of hardware w/some software limits

The hardware is fantastic, with a vibrant and responsive screen, though I do miss the physical switch for silent mode. The change to USB-C charging is also great and long overdue. The only downside is how limited iOS is when it comes to customizing anything at all - Apple often prefers a slick-looking design to a functional one, and the large screen can sometimes feel wasted as a result.

How big of an area do you need to have to set it up in? Meaning, does it need to be a certain distance from walls on either side?
iRobot recommends 1.5 feet on each side, but I think you could have less - when it enters or returns to the base, it goes in a straight line. It may need the space to distinguish between the base and surrounding wall, but I think it's at least worth trying putting the base in a narrower space.
