Tarantino’s First and One of His Best

The clever design of the steelbook alone is reason enough to pick up this version of Reservoir Dogs — even if you already own it. The 4K presentation is icing on the cake for this indie that still packs a punch with its arresting storytelling about a robbery gone wrong and the revelations that unfold as the robbers try to figure out who is the traitor among them. Tarantino’s electrifying debut has lost none of its ability to enthrall and gut-punch — highly recommended!

The producers and writers attempt to give us something different with Halloween Ends, which may divide expectations of those wanting a movie that focuses on the cat-and-mouse between Michael and Laurie. Not a total wreck, but not an entirely satisfying conclusion either. Still, has a killer soundtrack. Mildly recommended.

Surprisingly, not seen by many when it first released, this has slowly grown in reputation since and for good reason. The action is incredible, the alien designs are intriguing and the chemistry between Emily Blunt and Tom is off the charts. But she’s no mere eye candy! Emily gets to shine as a tough, inspirational soldier with a secret that could help Tom defeat the aliens.

Great movie, good looking Steelbook

This review will focus more on the packaging than the movie. Just know that the movie itself is 5 stars — a classic with humor, gore and great performances.
The steelbook is part of a Dia de los Muertos themed wave from MGM for Halloween 2018. It’s an ambitious concept that lends itself to very colorful designs. Of the 12 or so tiles, the RotLD steel is one of the few successful realizations of the design concept.
We see a striking image of a single zombie with the title artfully worked into the creature’s mandible and throat. It’s not overly done and you don’t lose the identity of the movie to the design concept and vice versa.
If you’re lucky like I was, you’ll find this on the shelf without any dings, dents or spine slashes caused by boxcutters that can do often plague steelbook releases.
I highly recommend this movie, and this steelbook design!
