Ben Affleck in directing mode
on November 3, 2018

Ben Affleck has a mixed career as an actor, sometimes only okay, sometimes good and rarely great. But, as a director he never fails to make an interesting movie with good actors from whom he gets good, sometime great performances. This is a very affecting drama done very well with good actors and a good script.

Not the best movie with Patrick Swayze (that would be the movie Ghost) but an interesting departure for him playing the tough guy.

More Great Stuff from Noomi Rapace

Again, this movie continues the story of Lizbeth Salander from "The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo". Noomi Rapace was born to play this character which put her on the map so to speak and she never disappoints.

THE GIRL WHO KICKED THE HORNETS NEST is the third and final film adaptation of the best-selling Millennium trilogy written by the late Swedish author, Stieg Larsson (THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO and THE GIRL WHO PLAYED WITH FIRE). in this last installment, Lisbeth Slander (Noomi Rapace) lies in critical condition, a bullet wound to her head, in the intensive care unit of a Swedish city hospital. She's fighting for her life in more ways than one if and when she recovers, shell be taken back to Stockholm to stand trial for three murders. With the help of her friend, journalist Mikael Blomkvist (Michael Nyqvist), she will not only have to prove her innocence, but also identify and denounce those in authority who have allowed the vulnerable, like herself, to suffer abuse and violence. And, on her own, she will plot revenge against the man who tried to kill her, and the corrupt government institutions that very nearly destroyed her life.

This is the best version of this movie. The acting, in my opinion, is better than the English language version (which was good). The characters are compelling and the story is very interesting. You can't go wrong with this movie if you like strong drama.

Very Good but not as Great as the Original

Hollywood always tries to remake great foreign films and I can understand it since some people will not go to a movie with subtitles. This is a very good remake but the original with Noomi Rapace and Michael Nyquist is superb. However, it you can't stand subtitles, better to see this version than to miss it completely.

Sissy Spacek, Anne Bancroft. A desperate woman tries to keep her suicidal daughter from ending her life in this riveting adaptation of Marsha Norman's Pulitzer Prize-winning play. 1986/color/97 min/PG-13/fullscreen.

You can't go wrong with Sissy Spacek and Anne Bancroft, two great actresses. The story is a tear jerker about a difficult subject so be prepared.
