If quirky odd ball horror is your bag, then you won't go wrong with Motel Hell. It's such a strange mix of oddities, (it did laughs, chainsaws and cannibalism before Texas Chainsaw 2) that Farmer Vincent charms as wells as disturbs. The blu ray does not have the best video, but it sure beats the DVD, and loads of special features to help you understand how this horror cult classic came to be!
It does take all kinds of critters to appreciated Farmer Vincent's fritters!

The Dark Half is one of my favorite Steven King books. So when the adaptation by Night of the Living Dead's George Romero came about I was sure to watch it. Despite rumors of set problems and studio funding falling out from under him, Romero delivers a great adaptation of a great book. The blu ray has good video audio and special features, with lots of Romero himself (no King, as per usual). The movie has slowly gained a cult following with its nightmare scenario and atmosphere (though I do criticize the lack of brutality from the novel). An underrated rough gem, and the special features really give you a good look behind the scenes.

This twofer has both films and a treasure trove of special features sorely lacking in the single releases. It comes in a nice thick case that holds 3 discs, slipcover, and inside some ads and a Wyld Stallions guitar pick. My only qualm is the price, its a bit up there for some niche 90s cheese, and I've never enjoyed the 2nd one as much as the 1st, although Death is a laugh riot. If you can afford it, then go ahead and be a Ziggy Pig and spoil yourself (I had a gift card)

First, the movie is cheesy glory, I forgot how big of a role Cussack has in this, but the rest of the cast is amazing. Dave Chappel in a bit part was particularly amusing. The video is a big crunchy, but serviceable and way better than the DVD. Special Features are short but not sweet. 90s action and nostalgia fans can have a ball, people looking for crazy Cage will find him toned down, but the one and only Buscemi steals the show.

This re-release of Jim Hensen's passion project Dark Crystal comes in a handsome book that matches the one Labyrinth came in. There are some short new special features, but the Blu Ray itself looks incredible compared to the old disc.

Best known for its raging street chase under and through the L train in Chicago, TFC is a great police story where the cops aren't perfect but they are a means to an end. A classic in the vein of Bullet, Popeye Doyle is a rough, racist street cop with a heart of gold. On the heels of some heroin pushers, the story remains flying by at 90mph through its runtime.

When Miami Vice creator Michael Mann jumped into film, he stayed in the dayglo synth heavy seedy side of things. Translating the book Red Dragon into Manhunter with a lot of style (and a radically different Lecktor than the one we are used to) in this Police procedural, one of the best films about catching a serial killer that exists. Tom Noonan is perfect as the bad guy, a man torn between his urges and wanting to be normal. As is To LIve and Die in LA's Will Graham, he also struggles with being too good at having insight into the criminal mind. Mix with interesting music and stark visuals, Mindhunter is a moody 80s noir with a savage side. Extras are plentiful and the HD is great, 2 versions are included for the purists.
The Hustler - Blu-ray - Paul Newman heads a superb cast featuring Jackie Gleason, George C. Scott and Piper Laurie in the riveting film that received an Academy Award nomination as Best Picture of 1961 and brought all four of it's Oscar nomination. Newman (Best Actor nominee) is electrifying as Fast Eddie Felson, an arrogant, amoral hustler who haunts backstreet pool rooms fleecing anyone who'll pick up a cue. Determined to be acclaimed as the best, Eddie seeks out the legendary Minnesota Fats (Gleason, Supporting Actor nominee), who's backed by Bert Gordon (Scott, Supporting Actor nominee), a predatory gambler. Eddie can beat the champ, but virtually defeats himself with his low self-image. The love of a lonely woman (Laurie, Best Actress nominee) could turn Eddie's life around, but he won't rest until he beats Minnesota Fats, no matter what price he must pay.

Before Paul Newman was old Fast Eddie Felson, he was young Fast Eddie Felson, one of the THE seminal pool playing movies out there. The blu ray is a beautiful black and white transfer loaded with extras, but the real stars are Newman and Minnesota Fats. The entire cast was almost nominated for Oscars, and the whole shebang is loaded with class, pathos and wit.

After the lackluster (but kid pleasing) #2, I was ready to leave the franchise be. However #3 had enough action, bad guys and humor that I thought it was a much better followup to the first Dreamworks Panda hit! Po's ancestry finally gets answered and the slapstick is at an all time high. A strange franchise to be sure, but the kids love it.

Galaxy Quest is the meta-humor SciFi romp that Star Trek fans always wanted but never knew they did. It was fun then, it's still fun now. The blu ray looks and sounds great, and the price was right.
