does install just require to plug in the vicinity thats weak? no syncing up required?
You have to go through a setup process & sync it to your main router. And don't forget to name it's network the exact same name as your main unit.

My router is in my living room but I need better range for my basement. Do I plug it in downstairs in the basement or upstairs? And will it reach from upstairs to the downstairs?
You can plug it in anywhere that you have signal from your main router. Just use the signal meter on your phone to see if it's in range.

I am trying to connect my Alexa in one room to the internet and my chromecast to the tv/internet in a different room. Will this netgearhelp me connect them to the hotel WiFi?? I know a travel router is the best choice but I can’t get one in time. Thanks.

i would like to extend my router signal , i do not want my devices to see it a different access point ? is this possible ?how to configure ?
Yes. It took me a couple hours on the phone with Netgear customer service in India. But we eventually figured out that you have to change the extender's network name to the exact same name as your main unit's network name. You can't do it using the app though. You have to do it through the website listed in your paperwork. It works great for me now. I hope you get it sorted out.
