Good 4k player. Purchased it mainly because it automatically reads Dolby vision enabled 4k disks without having to change it in the settings like a Sony player i returned. Have this connected directly to my receiver with an hdmi 2.1 cable and picture and audio quality is at it's best.

This is an excellent movie! Emily blunt's movies do not disappoint. Benicio del Toro is an absolute beast! Great cast of actors with a great plot and storyline.
The Dolby Atmos track is very good as well. Has a big cinematic soundstage and heavy low end.

Bought this movie based on rave reviews of the dolby atmos track. And yes it is one of the best atmos tracks out! Height and directionality is excellent but the lfe is on another level. It digs deep and will rattle your house. Puts your subwoofer(s) on notice! Def. buy for home theater enthusiasts whether you like the movie or not.

Bought this movie strictly for the DTS X audio track since there aren't many and it did not disappoint. Excellent immersive sound and 3D object placement. It is loud and the soundstage is big. The HDR vid quality was decent. Would def. Recommend for audio enthusiasts to add to collection.

Took advantage of the free trial but HBO Max has really got to step it up in the audio and video quality especially when its competitors offer 4k and Dolby atmos. HBOMax 1080p was only outputting 816p on my set and the audio just sounds too compressed even in DD+.

No joke!

Bought this 4k based on all reviews of the movie itself and the quality of the video and audio as well as all the accolades this movie won. No disappointment here. The movie is VERY good! And even though heath ledger has a lock on the best joker ever, Joaquin Phoenix imo was the best cast and fit for this portrayal of the joker. Movie is suspenseful, thrilling, and intriguing from start to finish and can be enjoyed by anyone even if not a DC/comic book or superhero type movie watcher. It's realistic.
As well as the movie being very good, so is the 4k picture quality and dolby atmos audio track. HDR really shined in this release. The joker's colorful clothes, face paint, and hair color Popped in Dolby Vision. Good black levels. The dolby atmos track is solid as well. The audio was a little laid back at start but once subway scene hit, it came alive and immersive. The music score is one of the best I've heard and towards the end when joker becomes relevant, the score's soundstage is absolutely fantastic!
Def. buy all around.

Classic movie and one of my all time favorites. Review is based on the 4k video and audio quality or in this case lack there of. I'll take the much hated blu ray version with the overly done DNR over this one. So much film grain, the movie shows it's age. Just didn't see any remastering to decent 4k levels. But if the video wasn't bad enough, the audio track(DTS HD) takes it down even another level! It is dated. Had to Check my receiver settings a few times to make sure that it wasn't in "stereo" mode. The center channel dialogue sounded like tv speakers on my 7.1.4 home theater system. No soundstage, no directionality, limited bass.. basically it's corny. I really can't even recommend this to die hard collectors. Just stick with the blu ray.

Very good movie. Quiet, thriller, horror. 4k video shows pretty good , but the dolby atmos audio is reference quality! The soundstage, volume, height use, rear channel directionality, all top notch. Simply because of the plot of movie having limited dialogue until the creature(whoa the sound!) hits, it is amongst my favorite dolby atmos mixes I have(Blade runner 2049,Madmax, Ready Player One,Pacific Rim).
Def. buy for audio enthusiasts.

Christopher Nolan steps back into the director's chair for this sequel to Batman Begins, which finds the titular superhero coming face to face with his greatest nemesis - the dreaded Joker. Christian Bale returns to the role of Batman, Maggie Gyllenhaal takes over the role of Rachel Dawes (played by Katie Holmes in Batman Begins), and Brokeback Mountain star Heath Ledger dons the ghoulishly gleeful Joker makeup previously worn by Jack Nicholson and Cesar Romero. Just as it begins to appear as if Batman, Lt. James Gordon (Gary Oldman), and District Attorney Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) are making headway in their tireless battle against the criminal element, a maniacal, wisecracking fiend plunges the streets of Gotham City into complete chaos.

DTS HD MA at its best
on December 4, 2020

Review on the 4k video and audio quality, I found the video quality to be good not great. It's a dark movie with good contrasts and good blacks but felt black levels should have been a bit more inky. But the audio quality is the shine of this 4k. No Dolby Atmos or DTS:X, but the DTS HD MA is outstanding! Neural X processing which is enabled on this disc creates a soundstage which is as big as Atmos or DTS:X. The movie is loud and the score is thunderous and wide. Best sounding DTSHDMA that i've heard so far.

Immersive soundbar alternative
By Batlacit
The BRAVIA Theater Quad almost feels like it's trying to make a statement. Possibly "more speakers are the best speakers." Rejecting the conventional design of the day where a large soundbar is paired with multiple small satellites in favor of four giant satellites, it's a striking addition to any room. But the aesthetics wouldn't matter much if it didn't work - and it certainly does. Getting it to work for you, however, will definitely require some pre-planning.
Usually, I'd start by listing things the system does particularly well. In this case, however, i feel it's more important to lead with the biggest downside. The quad speaker arrangement offers significant flexibility in terms of installation, but comes at the cost of many, many cords. Each speaker box, which is essentially a soundbar unto itself, has its own power cord, as does the controller box connected to your TV. It made getting it set up a significant challenge, particularly since the hookup for the controller box required a large wall wart rather than the slimmer two prong cables the rest of the speakers use. If the room you intend to use it in doesn't have lots of outlets located in convenient places, I don't think this is a good sound system to be considering compared to similarly performing options that can get by with just two or three cords that are likely going to be significantly easier to hide.
If that doesn't dissuade you though... man, this thing is GOOD.
With a total of sixteen discrete channels for surround sound, the level of immersion this system can achieve is second only to a modern Atmos equipped theater auditorium. My setup was basically a sound system torture test. The room it's in is irregularly shaped, giving it tons of inconvenient obstructions and places for sound to reflect off of surfaces in odd ways. I've tried surround sound systems there before and always had, at best, qualified successes. This one barely seemed bothered. After a brief round of setup and calibration in the app (almost all of which was automated) it launched into a demo that put me right into the middle of a jungle where I could close my eyes and hear birds and animals moving all around me with no distinguishable dropouts or deviations. I don't know if it's AI, good engineering, or just a ton of processing power at work, but it does its job.
I also do have to commend Sony for thinking about extras. In the box you get a full kit for wall mounting the speakers if you don't have the furniture to use the included stands, a spare HDMI cable in case you need to use the controller box as a passthrough, and a decent little remote which you'll probably never need to use once you get CEC set up. The speakers also support just about every surround sound standard out there and seem very capable of automatically detecting which one it should use. There are a lot of functions locked behind the app, which I know some people find to be annoying, but overall I found that the app was well designed and only occasionally needed to be used for fine adjustment. If you're a bass fan though you might be a little annoyed to learn that Sony declined to include a subwoofer in the set - requiring you to purchase a separate compatible unit if you want to get the full theatrical sound experience (and find yet another outlet to power it.) But there are at least multiple options to choose from, allowing the system to be a bit more flexible than most theaters in a box options. Just be aware that the flexibility doesn't extend to the satellites themselves - each one is designed for a specific part of your room, and will need to be placed properly for the calibration to work.
While the wiring issues make it hard to recommend the Quad to everyone, I do think there are a lot of good use cases for this. I can see it doing very well with a minimalist home theater setup using a projector or thin wall mounted OLED where the bulk of a soundbar wouldn't fit, a basement game room conversion where outlets could be placed in the ceilings or walls specifically for the speakers to use, or a living room where you need something that can blend in better than most of the black boxes on the market. So long as you go into it prepared to accommodate its unusual requirements, you can look forward to a very impressive soundscape.

Long, lengthy review about setup and placement with no mention of the MAIN reason why potential buyers would pay the money for a system like this. How it sounds! No mention of music nor movies(physical or streaming). No comparison to any current system reviewer may have. Just one sentence about Sony's included demo. Missed opportunity

Samsung solutions, why are you defending a product that a customer simply didn't like and has already returned by restating the known? You basically copy/paste the information the customer would have seen in the user manual. "We're sorry to hear that" is as far as you need to go.

Horrible setup and frequent disconnects. The app and control is poorly implemented. The sound profile is decent but once paired with sub and era 300’s the room correction ruins the supposed integration. There are better soundbar options for 1/2 price. I will not be keeping it with existing issues.

Super small but mighty!
By Helping
These are great! If you are having trouble with low volume, put a thick sock or cloth over the surround speakers and run asaptiq. The headset (provided for calibration) will think the surrounds are “lower volume” so it will increase them! These work wonders for atmos and non-atmos content. So many extra layers of sound throughout the room now. I bought the stands but have not needed to use them yet. They are on a cabinet and a desk behind my couch and it works great. They are super small but sleek as well! Best part of all of it - they are wife approved :) 100% buy these.

One of the best AIO soundbars you can buy
By darksparda
The Sonos Arc Ultra is one of the best flagship soundbars you can buy under $1000 but lack of features and less accurate sound may make you look elsewhere.
The design: the arc ultra looks very similar to the existing arc. It’s a little shorter in height in comparison so it may fit under tvs better. There’s a new bump out in the back that hosts the touch controls now rather than being integrated on the bar itself but overall the look and feel is largely similar.
Features: Sonos has added some new features this time around in the form of their new sound motion tech, improved true play and Bluetooth support.
It’s nice to see Sonos finally support Bluetooth in addition to the WiFi streaming options but we are still lacking any additional HDMI ports so we’re still taking up a port on the tv which is detrimental if you only have 2 hdmi 2.1 ports with one of them being the earc port.
Replay this year comes in two flavors: the original trueplay now called advanced trueplay and quick trueplay which uses the microphones in the bar itself to do the tuning so both android users and iOS users can get in on the fun. I actually prefer quick play tuning even though I use an iPhone and you can still use your phones microphone for part of the quick tuning if your using iOS so it’s the best of both worlds.
Performance: the original Arc was already a great performer and the Ultra elevates that performance to another level.
Dialogue is much improved over the arc and outside of very poor audio mixes I’ve never had to use the dialogue enhancement feature.
The sound itself is very good with good powerful forward projection and a surprisingly wide soundstage due to the virtual wide surround channels.
The bar touts itself as a 9.1.4 bar and while it makes an admirable attempt you don’t quite get surround sound.
You do get a sense of a 3d bubble but rather than being inside the bubble it’s more a sense that the bubble is in front of you with you being able to tell something like left surround being in a space to the bottom left in front of you.
The height channels are very clear sounding and user adjustable in the app for how boosted or not you want them to be but there is no chance of you ever feeling like it’s a .4 system, the height effects are very much centered in the front of the room.
The new sound motion tech is actually very interesting. There is a considerable boost to the bass performance with the tech and was even able to make the floor rumble in my room even with the bar sitting on top of the tv legs.
I’d actually say that I don’t think you actually need to get a sub to experience bass but getting a Sub/Sub mini will allow you to go a little lower and be a little smoother also freeing up the bar to enhance the midtones instead.
There’s only one real issue that I have with the bar and it’s that it’s not necessarily an accurate sound. I’ve played multiple different sources of media that I’m intimately familiar with and while it all sounded really good, they all sounded somewhat off. Especially for higher pitched treble sounds it feels like the pitch is wrong. For most people this probably won’t bother them with how great the sound is in general but it’s something to be aware of.
In conclusion, the arc ultra offers a very good mix of sound quality, tech improvements, and features making it one of the best all in one soundbars but there are both more expensive and less expensive bars that either provide more features, better accuracy, or just more speakers and real channels.

Actual surround sound, actual Atmos
By KillRepublicans
=Comparison to atmos soundbar=
The first thing you notice about these speakers is that they are BIG. They’re about one and a half times the size of a bookshelf speaker. If you pulled out the little speakers in a 5.1 soundbar, they would all fit in -one- of these four speakers. As soon as you notice that, the difference between this and a soundbar start making sense.
I have been living with an 7.1 setup - LG soundbar, subwoofer and rear speakers. The LG said it had atmos and speaker virtualization, but really? It wasn’t noticeable on the LG. The sound was great, the subwoofer worked, and I’d hear the occasional ‘zap’ or whoosh sound come out of the rear speakers. As an upgrade over TV speakers, it was a lot, but the sound did not. . . surround me. The soundbar speakers were basically up front and the soundstage was not much wider than the TV.
The bravia quad is the next level: the jump from TV to soundbar was the same as the jump from soundbar to quad. The quad is much, much closer to going to a movie theater.
I’m running this with a Sony A80J TV and an SASW5 subwoofer. The TV serves as an “S-center” speaker and is running from the headphone jack.
The sound is astonishing. I had an LG atmos/surround setup before, but it was nothing like this. The rear speakers are the same size as the front speakers, unlike every soundbar setup, and it shows. You do hear stuff go over your head - helicopters, spaceships, the flying monkey from Wicked. You start to notice how much effort is put into these mixes. My kids watched the Lego Movie on the first day with the quad and the sound was nothing short of cinematic. The Lego Movie!
=Connectivity=
I was a little worried about the wireless connection. Owners of the previous model, HT-A9, complained that dropouts were frequent. My living room has a mesh router in it that interferes with other audio devices (sennheiser wireless headphones hooked up to the tv), and there’s nowhere else I can move the router to reduce intereference.
However, the quad has been flawless. No dropouts, no stutters, no glitching at all. I had an issue with my Wii U gamepad controller where -it- would stutter and dropout (sound was uninterrupted), and the quad had an option in “Wireless Speaker Settings” that fixed the interference. There’s an ethernet jack in the back of the control box, but I haven’t felt the need to use it.
Some website reviewers have complained about the quality of the TV as a center speaker, and the ‘phantom center’ from the left and right front speakers. I have not had any problem. I also think these people are crazy. Ever listened to a car stereo? Home stereo? A set of headphones? The vocals are in “phantom center” with those devices as far as I know. We listen to “phantom center” all the time. Dialogue on everything I watch has been impeccable, although I have been using my Sony TV as a center speaker.
=Setup=
All the people on youtube complained about the setup. I had no issues. I had to screw the stands into the speakers, which was easy. I plugged everything in, turned on the sub, installed the Bravia Connect app, and setup took maybe 10 minutes. The longest part was downloading and updating the firmware. I was confused because I was waiting for something to go wrong. The subwoofer connected automatically without me pressing a button.
My room is a bit awkward. My couch is up against the wall. I don’t know if I could fit the tall home theater speakers or position everything perfectly. With the bravia quad, I set the front speakers about three feet to either side of the TV. I set the bravia rear speakers a couple feet to the left and right of the couch.
In this configuration, I feel like I heard the rear speakers quite a bit more than I should have. I could only tell because I got stands (see downsides below) and it really improved. I was playing a PS4 game, Elden Ring, and when a character is talking, I can turn and move their voice all around the soundscape, including directly behind me.
Youtube reviewers seemed to brag that the speakers sounded great no matter where you put them. That wasn't my experience, but maybe they were tweaking other settings. I really wanted to get my money's worth, and placing the speakers correctly accomplished that.
=Downsides=
The only downside at setup is the amount of plugs. You’ve got to plug in six devices into your wall outlets - four speakers, the control unit, and the subwoofer. That’s a step up from three devices: soundbar + rear controller + subwoofer. It is easier because two speakers are in the back and can be on a separate outlet. I ended up putting my subwoofer in the back too.
The uncommon shape of the speakers mean I spent about a week looking for speaker stands. These aren’t supposed to sit under your TV like a soundbar because you lose the stereo separation, but more importantly they can’t fit under my tv because they are Huge. They are, as I mentioned above, about 4-5x the height of a typical soundbar. Just the little plastic bases you attach to each speaker are two inches high. I can’t attach all four speakers to the wall because of the way my room is, and I don’t have furniture they could just sit on.
I talked to Sony and they don’t recommend a stand, they don’t make a stand, and they don’t seem to care, which is incredibly negligent for such an expensive product. You’re not supposed to sit it inside a shelf because it will block the up-firing Atmos speakers. The speaker stands I see from Sanus and Vebos that say they will fit are $150.00 for a pair, meaning an extra $300 on the price here. I tried generic $60 speaker stands, and I had to improvise using the screws that came with the Quad and some washers of my own. I used the "bottom and back lock" USX Mount bookshelf stand.
Overall, this is an amazing system. It will blow your soundbar out of the water. It sounds great on everything from Dolby Atmos surround to old sitcoms in stereo. If you're like me and weren't satisfied with the occasional "surround sound" pop or zap behind you, this will make you happy.

Marketing Hype. Myeh.
By jliltd
I don’t get it. With all the complicated set up and optimization routines combined with the marketing hype I should be happy as a pig in dirt. I combined this with their remote sub. Only the best for me and mine so go big or go home. I shoulda went home.
Worst thing: The audio level imbalance for most any TV show or movie is horrible. If you set the volume to hear the voices when an action scene hits it will hit so loud it knocks us out of our seats scrambling to turn down the volume. After that we can no longer hear the dialogue. This is for all streaming services and DVDs (what’s that?). As an engineer I went through all the settings and used the automatic sound set up routine built into the system. This sound bar might be great for a frat house movie night, but not for your average quiet home den.
Next Worst Thing: Volume is digital notching. The system is all digital, including the volume control. So instead of a nice linear volume level you get digital notched volume. So the lowest setting is zero volume but one click up is too loud for late-nite viewing while someone is sleeping. There is no control over this. It’s a very synthetic experience and rude.
Next: The system cannot be used or set up without using a flaky app. No plugging this thing in and go. It needs to talk to your phone and more importantly to it’s mothership somewhere. If you have a cabin in the woods don’t expect for this $$$$ to do anything.
Lastly: Don’t buy into the hype that this is the best
I just set up another TV with another brand sound bar which was less than half the price and it works so good I am ready to dump my Arc Ultra and go foe something like that.

"another brand sound bar"

Could you please state the other brand sound bar and the model. It would give weight to your lengthy review and credibility too it if you're warning potential buyers not to "buy into the hype". Since you're an engineer, it also allows others to see what you consider better than the arc ultra.

Does this tv have HLG? It is not listed in the spec and I would find it odd that Samsung has it for the 7 series and not this 8 series.
