Plays sound in reduced and increased speed playback, which Blue Ray units normally lack. Great for playback of analog DVDs recorded over the air, and for foreign language subtitled series.

Does it have the ability to play the sound while one person has ear phones on?
No. This TV and all others I've used/seen have a headphone jack that, when used, disconnects the speakers. You may be able to find a third party device that plugs into the headphone jack, contains speakers and also has a headphone jack, but controlling the volume to both speakers and the headphone jack could be a safety concern. If you find (or build) such a device, be very careful to prevent high decibel output to the earphones (to prevent hearing loss).

Is this a high efficiency model (MVWC465HW)? Would I need HE detergent? This model does NOT come with a drain hose?

A wash cycle can take up to TWO HOURS? Is this longer than other brands or is this how washers are now?
I've experienced 45 minutes or so for a normal load with two rinse cycles. Controls are a bit different from my prior 1995 Maytag, or the 1958 Maytag before that. Suspect longer cycles are for deep cleaning settings and/or low water pressure.
