Beautiful visuals, I enjoy the live action battle system. FFVII for Ps1 though enjoyable was obviously turn based.
The steel book is quite elegant. Characters are a bit cheesy at times but that is kind of typical for JRPG's. Very linear gameplay/story. I for one don't mind a linear game though a lot of gamers seem to disagree with my opinion on that topic.

Granted, not all of the actors delivered their best performances but the overall hate that this film recieved was not warranted. A good film, a solid film. Animated special effects were top notch, A LOT of references to the novel; more than most would realize, even if they were capable of reading above a 3rd grade level and actually picked up the book. The F word arguably being the most diverse word in the English still needs some more multisyllabic vocabulary inserted between the 50 times used in 10 mins. Saying F word repeatedly with next to no other phrases isn't funny, it just becomes mundane.
