Or, in my case, add money to my daughter's account for when I'm unable to make it home in time to make dinner. It's a DoorDash gift code, what more can I say? Easily redeemed to her DoorDash account with no problems, and even came with a promo card. Very happy!

When I first saw Black Swan in theaters twelve years ago, I was struck by the darker undertones throughout the film -- it's a great psychological thriller and I highly recommend it. As usual however, my review will focus more on the Blu-ray release (transfer, special features, etc) than the actual film itself.
First off, my immediate reaction after watching the Blu-ray was that it was not as clean or as high-def an experience as I had remembered from the theater. Granted, my memory of the theatrical release 12 years ago is unquestionably somewhat faded, and with the advent of 4K TVs perhaps my expectations are higher now as well. However, after thinking about it more, I believe the graininess/grittiness of the video is actually intentional, especially given the psychological nature of this movie and the fact that the overall color scheme leans towards the dark and muted side (again, for atmospheric effect). With that in mind, I find that the graininess of the visuals actually heighten the sense of foreboding the way an old black-and-white horror film might seem creepier than a modern, full-color crisp 4K remaster. So while I initially was disappointed in the visual quality, I am now quite impressed by the directorial vision.
While I may have been initially hesitant about the video quality, the audio was spot on from the very beginning. This disc has a 5.1 DTS-HD Master track which (if you have the equipment for it) is both amazing and downright terrifying - the subtlety with which the ambient sounds are reproduced all around you is flat out chill-inducing. As was expected from a movie about ballet, the scoring and music are exceptional... but the clarity of the dialog really blew me away. The importance of hearing every whisper is especially noted considering the relationship the protagonist (Nina, Natalie Portman) has with her main "frenemy" (Lily, Mila Kinus) and the psychological journey she goes through during this film.
If there is one area where this blu-ray version of the movie falters somewhat, I'd have to say it is in the Special Features department. While I had lower expectations since this isn't the "special edition" version (a 2-disc version does exist) I have to say I kind of expected more than just a "making of" featurette and a digital copy of the movie, especially considering how well received the movie was when it came out.
All in all, the atmospheric visuals and incredible sound are faithful representations of the theatrical release, while the extra features are somewhat lacking. Still, I bought this disc to mainly enjoy the movie itself, not the features, and in that regards I can say I wholeheartedly DID enjoy it. I highly recommend the film, though personally I do wish I had sprung for the 2-disc special edition instead.

While I found the original Deadpool better than the sequel, I still very much enjoyed this movie when I saw it in theaters, and thus I jumped on the chance to own it on BluRay. The video transfer is nice, with vivid colors and crisp details, though it is (obviously) not as sharp or detailed as the 4K version. The audio is likewise pleasing, and the digital copy included in this version is a nice plus (though the quality of any streaming copy doesn't live up to the disc version due to compression). A fun movie and an honest transfer to BluRay!
Store your files safely on this 240GB PNY solid-state drive. It achieves write speeds of 500MB/sec. and read speeds of 535MB/sec., providing transfer rates faster than traditional hard drives. The lack of moving parts on this PNY solid-state drive reduces its chance of failure.

Bought a couple of these SSDs almost a year ago to upgrade old PCs and laptops and I have to say, they work absolutely amazing for the price! Sure, they're not as fast as a Samsung, but they cost considerably less as well and are waaay faster than the spinning HDDs they replaced. No issues in the 9 months of use so far, they're working just as well and just as fast as when first installed. Can't attest to long-term longevity over 9-months, but so far so good!

I have a 7th Gen but bought this new 8th Gen for my mom, and I have to say that it is the same or better than the 7th in all aspects: the battery life and responsiveness are improved over my 7th Gen and the size, weight, feel, colors, etc are all the same. I still love my 7th Gen and the difference is not so huge that I would spend all that money to replace it with the new 8th Gen, but the difference is noticeable to me.
Create, learn, work, and play like never before on the immersive 10.2-inch Retina display. Support for the Smart Keyboard and Apple Pencil.~ Over a million apps available on the App Store, including Apple Arcade games. Front and back cameras. Wi-Fi and LTE.~ All-day battery life.~ And it comes with iPadOS, which unlocks a whole new world of capability. It's unbelievably fun. And unmistakably iPad.

As a lifelong Windows and Android user, I've always felt that the Apple ecosystem was just not for me -- it didn't offer enough customization and control over things that I wanted to be able to have control over. That said, the entire rest of my family all have iPhones and I'll be honest -- I felt a little left out of all the "blue bubble" goodness (especially being able to send videos over text/iMessage!) That's why I decided to compromise: instead of trading in my Android phone or Windows PC for an iPhone or MacBook, I would just get an iPad to replace my old 2013 Nexus 7 tablet. And thus I stepped into the Apple ecosystem after all.
... and it really hasn't been as bad as I thought. There are many things that Apple does right, and the combination of speed, price, and build quality on this iPad is one of those. Does the non-laminated screen feel a bit plasticy and thin? Sure, and the A10 processor is now a few years old as well. But honestly, considering the price of this 7th Gen iPad, the amount of processing power you get and the overall build quality of this iPad, I feel like this is a steal, even for an Apple device. Aside from the occasional slowdown or glitch, the UI moves smoothly and seamlessly, apps open and switch quickly, and the screen is a beauty even without all the extra goodness of the Air or Pro lines. The speakers can get decently loud (though they are only on the bottom of the iPad, so no true stereo sound) and WiFi/Bluetooth connectivity is strong. For video streaming, Netflix, Youtube, music, internet browsing, email, and casual games, you really can't go wrong with this lowest-tier iPad. Will they be replacing it with a newer, faster, better one in a year or less? Of course! But that's going to be the case WHENEVER you buy one, and I'd rather have a lesser something I can use now than not have anything to use while waiting for something better. So yes, all in all I am quite happy with my purchase, plus it's helped me overcome some of my anti-Apple bias. I still doubt I will ever use an iPhone myself, but at least I won't embarrass my daughter with my green bubbles anymore!

Okay, Heat (as a movie) is simply amazing. If you're reading this review and you haven't watched the movie yet, just do it any way you can! Pacino vs De Niro is truly a sight to see, and the allstar ensemble cast is stellar. But I'm not here to review the movie, I'm going to review this particular bluray release of the movie. So without further ado...
The long (and somewhat pretentious) superlative for this version, the "Director's Definitive Edition", is so named because it is a a new transfer and restoration supervised by the director himself. If you can't tell by the cover, Mann likes to use darkness to great effect in his films, and Heat is no different. This new transfer brings out many details (particularly in those dark night scenes) which were lost in previous releases and it looks amazing. Unless they do a new transfer for a 4K UHD release, I don't see how they could get much more out of the original film on which this was recorded. The sound is likewise supposedly an upgrade from the previous bluray release, with DTS-HD Master Audio in 5.1 in this new version; however, I couldn't tell a difference as my receiver cannot decode DTS, so I got the same standard 5.1 and it still sounded great. Dialog was clear and easily intelligible, with sound effects (gunfire!) spanning all the surround space nicely. As for extras, this is actually a 2-disc set: the first disc contains the movie with an optional commentary from the director (Michael Mann) and the second disc contains a bunch of extras, including a couple panels and a "making of" featurette -- those three features alone total more than two-and-a-half hours! And some of these extras have not been released previously, so that's an extra bonus.
When taking into account all of the above, I can honestly say that "Heat, the Director's Definitive Edition" is definitely one bluray release which lives up to it's name!

This was a nice bonus set of XBox gift cards. As expected, all codes were unused with the PIN numbers still unscratched, and they all redeemed just fine. I liked the holiday theme, too!

I purchased this portable Bluetooth speaker for my daughter to use with her phone and she loves it! Considering the price I paid (under ten bucks) I'm quite surprised by how capable this speaker is. It pairs easily and can get quite loud for its size, plus the battery lasts at least a good 4-5 hours at moderate volume. Using it for bluetooth phone calls is less than great -- if you are not close to the speaker then the caller can't hear you very well, and the callers audio sounds somewhat muddy and distorted -- but the music (MP3 and Spotify) playback sounds wonderful and that's all my daughter uses it for, so it works for me.

I saw Alita in theaters when it first came out and couldn't believe how life-like the main character (Alita) was for CGI -- for me, they have definitely crossed the "uncanny valley" successfully! Apart from the large "anime eyes", I couldn't even tell it was not a human being. I left the theater impressed by the technological and visual accomplishments of the film (if not by the depth of the characters and the story). However, this review is for the 4K UHD BluRay and not the movie itself, so -- altogether, I found the 4K transfer quite impressive, despite the upscaling from it's 2K source. The details and textures seem sharp and nuanced, and the color reproduction is true to the original theater version (or at least as much as I can remember). The HDR10+ looks especially good given the dark and grimy setting for most of this movie. The sound also is impressive, and I don't even have a nice Atmos setup or anything. I cannot speak to the 3D aspects as I do not have a 3D player or 3D TV, but overall I am quite favorably impressed by the 4K version of this movie and highly recommend it to anyone with a 4K player who liked the movie!
Does this blue ray collection also work in a DVD player? The description mentions dvd but I want to make sure as I do not have a blue ray player. Thanks!
The movies themselves are Bluray discs only and will not work in a standard DVD player, but the 9 extra features discs are DVDs and will play in a bluray player or a regular DVD player.
Not yet (as of May 2020) but reportedly Warner is working on bringing both versions of the LOTR trilogy (theatrical & extended) and the Hobbit trilogy to 4k.
