Add Jaws 4K Steelbook to Your Collection
on November 11, 2020

Jaws is one of the definitive films of the 1970s, featuring a timeless theme of man versus nature handled by one of the most influential directors, Steven Spielberg. I have seen Jaws in nearly every home video format, from NTSC on VHS and DVD to 1080p on blu-ray and now 4K. Arguably, the greatest improvement was going from blu-ray to 4K. The sound and picture of this UltraHD release are stunning. The steelbook packaging offers a worthy keepsake that will hold up better than the regular cheap plastic cases, and has better artwork.

One of the Greatest War Movies in 4K Steelbook
on November 11, 2020

The thematic elements, action sequences, writing, acting and directing of 1917 were all excellent, and the steelbook 4k offers a more sturdy keepsake for this fine film in high res. For some reason I had avoided seeing 1917 because some criticisms of the movie portrayed it as a cold, sterile vehicle for Sam Mendes' typical long-shot action sequences. The criticisms were unfounded.
Tthe film indeedmade excellent use of Mendes' style. But 1917 also has a tremendous impact on a human level, showcasing the main character's emotional response to the mission assigned to him. At first, he is reluctant to accept it, but he takes on greater responsibility as the film wears on, only at the very end revealing how much he has to lose, and his underlying motivations. The audio and video quality in 4K high resolution is stunning.
Ultimately, the film may not be as important or groundbreaking as top-tier war movies like Saving Private Ryan or Black Hawk Down, but it is equally captivating in its own way and earns a spot alongside them.

Definitive Release of One of the Greatest Series
on November 11, 2020

Verified Purchase:Yes
From the first episode to the last, GOT featured excellent writing, acting, scenery and production values, making it the perfect show to see and hear in 4K, high definition. This set offers definitive release steelbooks, with a no-nonsense outer box showing the major house sigils, and compelling artwork to showcase each season. The discs are stored, generally four-to-a-season, in easy-to-access, sturdy plastic inserts that are more sturdy and easier to access than the various cardboard-and-plastic sleeves of previous releases.
The video and audio quality is fantastic overall, but there is some room for criticism. Each disc defaults to Dolby Digital 5.1 audio rather than the higher resolution Dolby TrueHD 7.1, so one must remember to select the proper audio from the menu. It makes a big difference in sound quality. The menus for each disc are also in low resolution. Some scenes have a minor problem with the color saturation. But overall these aren't significant enough to take away a star from the rating.
There has been a lot of whining about the later seasons not living up to the thematic or screenplay standards of the first seasons, but those criticisms are silly. Character development is more important in the beginning and less important as GOT progresses. At the same time, the series became a phenomenon and commanded greater budgets that allowed for more elaborate sets, battles scenes and effects in the final two seasons. Each episode is of higher quality than most movies, so the complaints need to be taken with a grain of salt.

Five years after their dangerous journey across the post-pandemic United States, Ellie and Joel have settled down in Jackson, Wyoming. Living amongst a thriving community of survivors has allowed them peace and stability, despite the constant threat of the infected and other, more desperate survivors. When a violent event disrupts that peace, Ellie embarks on a relentless journey to carry out justice and find closure. As she hunts those responsible one by one, she is confronted with the devastating physical and emotional repercussions of her actions.

A significant step down from the first game

Originally, TLoU was a brilliant video game that went beyond excellent voice acting, game play and plot, to feature transcendent moments that made it more than a game. These moments included the final, haunting "lie" that Joel told to Ellie. Joel's lie added another dimension to the ending of the original and became an important theme in TLoU2.
The relationship between Ellie and Joel was a father/daughter dynamic of love that drove the emotional attachment of the player. It helped the player relate to the characters and was a winning formula for Neil Druckman and Naughty Dog -- a formula that they had no reason to reject. But it was rejected very early in TLoU2 when Joel was killed. So instead of Ellie and Joel being able to work through the lie together, it became about Ellie trying to find meaning for her life and forgiveness for Joel without him being a part of the gameplay.
TLoU2 was about about revenge. That can only work when the player is fully behind the revenge plot. But TLoU2 makes it impossible for the player to be into revenge because it jumps around from memory to memory and jumps between the two "first-person shooter" characters, who each seek revenge. I understand Neil Druckman was going for a more profound concept, like teaching the player that violence and revenge are not the answer, but that is a totally self-defeating message in this game, on every level. It feels like TLoU2 is looking for those transcendent moments of the first game, but all the moments in TLoU2 fail to achieve emotional connection with the player.
The nobilty and universal theme of the father/daughter type of relationship between Joel and Ellie is replaced with gender dysphoria and dysfunction. Joel had a sense of responsibility and compassion for Ellie that drove the first story. After he dies early in TLoU2, it is replaced with confusion, abandonment, a lack of conviction and wishy-washy motivation of the characters. By killing Joel early in TLoU2 and engaging in gender bending weak allegiances between the remaining characters, including Ellie, Druckman forces the player to try to relate to characters they will not be able to relate to. He may have thought this was noble, but it is a mess.
In terms of gameplay relative to TLoU, there are some updates to the graphics, weapons, enemies and controls. The voice acting remains solid. Naughty Dog is second only to Rock Star in voice acting. But the bottom line is that the game is not fun to play because of the disconnect between the characters and the lack of emotional connection that was assured when Joel exited early. Druckman did not even attempt to build on his winning formula that could have elevated TLoU2 to universal themes about humanity. He tossed it aside for no reason, and it was a real let-down for those of us who looked forward to the sequel for many years.
To say a few kind words about TLoU2, the new kinds of infected were very well conceived and executed in the gameplay. There are still clickers and runners, but instead of bolters there are now shamblers, stalkers, and a surprise infected monster -- be warned, this is a very dangerous opponent! But the ending and plot were such a let-down that we cannot recommend TLoU2.

After his life is shattered by tragedy, legendary assassin John Wick (Keanu Reeves) is forced out of retirement to take on the world's most intense villains in this trilogy of action movies. Included here is John Wick, John Wick: Chapter 2, and John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum.

Digital Downloaded Restricted to Vudu only!
By Bbyshopper1115
This is a bit upsetting as there was no way to know this until you open the case and try to redeem the digital download code.
John Wick 1 and 2 are only able to activated on Vudu, I wanted these to be activated on Apple TV(iTunes Movies) instead.
John Wick 3 was able to be activated on Apple TV. So now this bundle is split across 2 different streaming providers.
There really needs to be a disclaimer stating what streaming providers are supported!
Would love to return this, however the package has been opened, and now I am no longer able to.

Yes, everyone knows Vudu sucks and that some titles from some distributors force you to use Vudu for the digital copy. But you bought a Steelbook version of these films presumably to play the 4K discs, and you didn't review those whatsoever.
