Nice receiver for the price. Didn't get 5 stars cause of volume. Have to turn it up to at least 40 to even start hearing it. I've read that others had same problem. Dolby Atmos is nice. Have Amazon fire stick that supports atmos. Im using regular speakers so would sound better with upward atmos speakers like i have with my samsung atmos soundbar..All in all, happy with it. Easy to set up. Love all the hdmi ports for additional stuff. I have my cable box, dvd player, and firestick hooked up.

I purchased the Onkyo because it was supposed to have Dolby Atmos, as indicated on the carton and in the Best Buy product listing. When I was installing it, I read the Manual and discovered Atmos was only available if you upgraded the firmware. The Manual cautioned that if your attempt to upgrade resulted in the unit not working, you would be financially responsible to have it repaired. I called Onkyo Customer Service and was told the same thing. I said it appeared to be false advertising. They said I could return it to Best Buy if I was not happy. I then pointed out that I had attempted to visit "onkyo.com", but my security software said it was too risky, and my personal information could be stolen. I was then told they had heard that also, but I could go to "onkyousa.com" and it would be safe. Next, I returned to Best Buy to see if they would install it for me. I was told I would have to pay them. When I asked if I could still return it if my attempt to upgrade the firmware caused the unit to shutdown. They said I could return it as "defective" equipment, as long as it was within the return time limit. I spent the next two days using multiple flash-drives, and different decompressing software trying to upgrade the unit. Each attempt (10+) ended with "Error 70". I returned the unit to Best Buy, told my story again, and got a full refund. The Best Buy folks were polite and friendly, but this was a complete waste of my time and effort. This firmware update is dated 05/19. Either the unit has been sitting for three years, or Onkyo failed to install the up-to-date firmware. Either way, I now have a Sony without Atmos, but it does everything it is advertised to do.

I am getting dolby atmos with no problems or updates. Started working as soon as i hooked everything up. I am using the amazon fire stick 4k that supports dolby and am able to watch netflix movies that also support dolby atmos. I also can watch dvds in on my dvd player which supports dolby atmos. I dont get dolby atmos through the receiver orherwise. My tv doesnt support it, so thats why im using the firestick. My cable company doesn't transmit in dolby atmos so i cant get it anyway and only select movies on netfix. Im also not running dolby atmos speakers but still sounds really good. On receiver it lights up blue showing its working and the info button on the remote shows when its working. Hope this helps.
