Good Voice and Upper frequency Range and Volume
on April 3, 2026

I needed a sound bar for a 42 inch Insignia "non-smart" TV with a bit of volume and clarity in the mid- to upper-frequencies, that is as wide as possible without exceeding the width of the TV. It will eventually be used for a kitchen environment, but more immediately as a remote A/V unit to display a slideshow and play background music in a backyard setting. It will be plenty loud enough for background music, but I will be using a small subwoofer for the outdoor event.
. When I bought this unit, I also needed to buy a mounting bracket to host the soundbar with the TV when I mount it on the swinging wall bracket I will use in its final mounting place.
. If I were not looking for a higher wattage, I might consider the Insignia NS-SB21, which only rates 40 Watts... compared to this Sony HTS100F (120 Watts). It also has a small subwoofer, which I'd be hard-pressed to find a place for in my usage. I am seeing other soundbars than when I made my purchase that I might have considered.

It Gives Closure To The Firefly Series
on September 5, 2023
Posted by: RosemaryL
Verified Purchase:Yes
"Serenity" was made a few years after the short-lived (single season) Firefly series, and caps off the story line. Both the series and the movie are what I think is the personification of a "space western" and a well-rounded adventure story.
Probably ahead of its time by a few years, the 1 season series is in syndication. Watch the first two episodes and see if you become a fan.
Both the Firefly series and Serenity are must for my collection!

A Great 2K Work Horse
on July 19, 2023

This thing just works. I actually bought it twice. I gave the first one away when I bought a Panasonic DP-UB820-K 4K player. That player developed playback issues outside the Best Buy return policy on some media that the Sony BDP-S6700 has no issues with. The one thing the S6700 doesn't do is play 4K UHD discs, but it up-scales 2K discs pretty well. Until the Panasonic dies, I'll use the Sony for every but the 4K discs.

These Guys Were Great
on July 19, 2023

Verified Purchase:Yes
First, I have to commend the guys who did this, especially for what my husband put them through. The way they brought unit in was efficient, but hard on the back.
The new refrigerator we bought just barely made it through the door, after taking the doors off the refrigerator and the door off the hinges. We knew that was the case when we bought the refrigerator. What we didn't realize is that the old refrigerator had swollen and is now a little over a 1/4" deeper than the door frame is wide. It came in that way, but it isn't coming out. The guys waited as long as they could while my husband tried to make it work, but they said to call back when we get it outside and they would pick it up on a future delivery schedule. I am sure they had a bunch of deliveries to make.

After 2 Weeks, Really Liking This One
on July 19, 2023

Verified Purchase:Yes
My husband & I bought this LG to replace an 11 year old Samsung (similarly configured) that finally failed on June 28th, while we were out buying 4th-of-July meats. Luckily, this LG was on sale, so we bought the 5-year Geek Squad Protection Plan and still came in close to the every-day price.
. The LG units boast of a 5-year limited warranty on the pump unit. We found just about every other brand has only 1-year warranty on everything.
Temperature Stability:
. We saw several posts about seeing irregular temperature swings using sophisticated measuring gear. What we are seeing is the air swinging between 33 and 42 degrees, at times. However, using a mechanical gauge inserted in my insulated insulin bag shows the temperature in the bag stays pretty consistently between 39 and 41 degrees. The '37 degree' light is a setting or goal, so don't be alarmed if you see it not change.
. Air Flow vents in the unit seem to do a great job of circulating air to all shelves. The Samsung was radiant cooling. Not sure if the newer ones are, but this is not nearly as effective, and meant warmer temps nearer the top.
Water & Ice: This is a light to moderate use ice maker. My husband is a heavy ice user and has additional ice trays in the freezer. The unit makes more than enough ice for just me. The water flow is slower than the Samsung and also seems to not be as chilled, especially after about a glass worth has been dispensed. Not an issue for us, but I have seen some negative comments about the temp.
Butter Compartment?: We have historically had a compartment dedicated to a butter dish. Not in this unit. It isn't a deal-breaker for us. Space is actually maximized by not having the door area configured for one.
Shelves & Bins: Only the top shelf in the refrigerator section can be adjusted, and there area only two positions. The bottom refrigerator bin is extra deep, meaning that it extends up to the door shelf. To be able to slide that bin out far enough to access it, the right door has to be fully extended. If the refrigerator is up against the wall on the right side, the door may not be able to be opened far enough to access the bin.
Freezer Section: This unit has slightly more refrigerator space and slightly less freezer space than our old unit. It is not as wide by about an inch. That was enough to not be able to put some things side-by-side on a shelf that we used to be able to do. Caught us off guard, but we adapted. You might want to check those measurements.
Power Efficiency: The 2012 26 cu ft Samsung that failed was rated at 562kW hours per year, and this LG is rated at 726KW hours per year. Neither one was "Energy Star Certified", but the difference is calculated at about $24 per year. If you are concerned about conserving electricity, this may be something to factor into your purchasing decision.
Time will tell, but this unit is so far more than adequate.

Enjoy brilliant color and sound with this Panasonic Ultra HD Blu-ray player. The chroma processing technology maximizes the color of 4K/HDR content, and the 7.1-channel audio output produces lifelike surround sound when connected to a home audio system. The color signals received by this Panasonic Ultra HD Blu-ray player are upgraded to produce natural textures and depth.

Playability Issues After Several Months, Beware
on July 19, 2023
Posted by: RosemaryL
Verified Purchase:Yes
I bought the DP-UB820-K in September 2022, as part of upgrading the entertainment center from 2K to 4K. For the first few months, this unit was awesome. Then, we started finding scratches on new 4K UHD discs on first open that the UB820 would hang on. The movie would stall and the picture would digitize. Sometimes, the unit would take a a minute or more and play the rest of the disc. Other times, it would just abort playing. Once in a while, the player would stop responding and we'd have to pull the power to the unit and plug it back in just to be able to eject the disc. Then, we started experiencing the same thing with 2K Blu-Rays.
After replacing quite a few 2K discs that played perfectly on our Sony BDP-S6700 (that we gave away thinking we would no longer need it) with 4K discs, we had some of the 2K discs tested on a 2K player... they all played fine. Then, my husband tried to play an audio CD... Disc not recognized. Same thing with a gold-plated Maxell laser cleaning audio CD. We now own another Sony BDP-S6700 that we use to play everything below 4K.
Way out of the Best Buy return window my husband started a dialog with Panasonic support. Their response was to pay to have it shipped to their Florida facility for repair. He sent a cleaned Blu-Ray disc that played fine on the Sony BDP-S6700 and totally hung the UB820 with a screen shot and time marker of the spot where the issue occurs.
. Panasonic is returning the unit with "No Issues Found". My husband talked to the technician who said the disc was heavily scratched and had debris all over it, and played the same on his reference unit. The 'UB820' we sent in passed all of their tests.
For what it is worth, the DP-UB820-K has a stunning picture and fantastic audio decoder section. From what I found scouring A/V forums, some of these units end up similarly to the one we bought, but most are fantastic.
. I'd suggest buying the Geek Squad Protection on this one, especially while it is on sale. It cost us $45 to mail the unit to Panasonic. It would have been well worth dealing with Best Buy under their protection plan than what we experienced.
. And, don't get rid of your 2K player for while! The Sony BDP-S6700 2K-only player has pretty good 4K up-scaling, and is serving as decent fallback player for us.
We got to the point where we would open every new movie
