Make your computer fast again

Let me give it to you straight. I do IT work for a living for many years now. I've used this drive to replace dozens if not hundreds of laptop and desktop drives in the last few years. If you have a relatively decent CPU, 8gb RAM or more (4 is the very least), this SSD will give you a fast computer. The difference you'll see is remarkable. The reliability is extremely good as well. I haven't seen a single failure of a WD Blue SSD. I have seen a few others but as a rule, SSDs are more reliable than spinning drives. Well worth their price. Get one!

65" Series 8. The best tv I've ever owned.
on October 27, 2020

I bought this tv in Aug 2020 and waited until the end of October to review it. Wanted to give it time for any problems to show up. Well to be frank there hasn't been a single problem. The clarity and brightness of this unit is unsurpassed. I've had numerous relatives and visitors exclaim what an amazing picture this has. I've watched 8k videos from YTube on it and they are simply stunning. Let me say it again. This tv is BRIGHT. I read and watched many reviews from the "pros" but they were nearly all done when this tv first appeared. There were a few little settings and bugs that needed to be tweaked and I think the factory did this on subsequent releases of their tvs. Consequently, the new tvs are vitually problem free. I do feel bad for a the few who have gotten problematic tvs as these do happen due to manufacturing and shipping problems. Without a doubt, this is the finest tv set I've ever owned. I was able to get it when it was on sale and at the discounted price, it was a great buy. Highly, highly recommended.

Extremely heavy but good quality.
By KAM2615
Picture quality is what I expected and it is good. Shows that are developed in 4k have a crispness to the picture that is memorizing. Many shows are not filmed in the higher resolution so unfortunately a lower priced TV would look the same. The television however, is way heavier than any other 65" TV I have ever had.
Completely caught me off guard the first time I tried picking up the box and I needed to reinforce the wall in order to feel comfortable on the placement. The television weighs 70 lbs with an additional 8.5 lb stand if you are placing the unit on a console. Most other units were around 35-40 lbs.
I am uncertain why this TV is nearly double the weight, but with all the specs you can look for to buy the right television, the weight was never one that crossed my mind.

Why 3 stars?
August 22, 2020
You love the picture but marked off for the weight? The extra weight comes from the 20,000-25,000 mini-leds that other sets don't have. That's where the brightness comes from. Sigh....

TCL's 6-Series combines stunning 4K HDR and mini-LED technology in a bold, brushed metal design for a superior TV experience. Quantum Dot technology and the HDR Pro Pack with Dolby Vision combine for greater brightness and contrast, as well as a full palette of rich colors. TCL~s Contrast Control Zone technology optimizes the image across individual zones to yield striking contrast between light and dark areas. The 6-Series models~ AiPQ Engine uses machine-learning algorithms to optimize color, contrast and clarity for an unrivaled 4K HDR experience. Easy Voice Control lets you control your entertainment using just your voice. Arsenal of features including Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) and Auto Game Mode (ALLM), let you enjoy the smoothest action and an optimized fast-response gaming experience on the big-screen. Plus, the Roku OS provides seamless access to thousands of streaming channels, your cable box, Blu-ray player, gaming console, and other devices without flipping through inputs or complicated menus. The super-simple remote~with about half the number of buttons on a traditional TV remote~puts you in control of your favorite entertainment.

Amazing but! Penal lottery I guess
By Jfiore7
This TV is gorgeous.. displays 4K content amazingly depending, Netflix can have some wonky Dolby vision.
Also my panel is messed up. Whenever there should be black bars at the top and bottom while watching a movie. They are gray washed and blacks crushed in general.
Also I'm getting red and blue tiny pixels all over the screen at some points...
I have a replacement order coming to me. And hopefully this one is perfect as other people's have been.
In this state I wouldn't recommend it but if the problems are fixed with the next set then I absolutely would.
I bought it as a gaming TV and hdr on my base PS4 looks unbelievable. But it looks terrible on my Xbox One S. But I think it is the consoles limitations.
Also game mode isn't the best looking setting. At least I should say the gaming picture setting. You should always keep game mode on. But you have to tweak what you like to see visually, to the proper picture setting while gaming.

Sad face
August 26, 2020
I hear ya. Early adopters of new tvs when they first come out can be hit and miss as the factory sorts out the manufacturing errors and softwares are optimized. Looks like a winner for sure. Sad you got one of the "un-perfect" ones to start with but lets hope it changes for the better really quick.!

Update to Original Review
May 30, 2022
It's now the end of May 2022. I've had this TCL 8 series 65" for almost 2 years now. The problems I've encountered during that time? ZERO. This tv sees an average of 12-16 hrs (sometimes over 20 hrs) a day of viewing. It's in my office and since I now do the vast majority of work from home, it's nearly always on. I typically turn it on for the local news and weather when I get up, and then leave it on all day while working (I do IT and remotely connect to the majority of my customers). Not a glitch, picture is still stunning, I get compliments on it every time someone see's it. TCL got this one right. Too bad it's not available to purchase anymore. I'm adding this comment since Best Buy doesn't allow you to edit your previous posts. The original price on this set was $1999.99 and only for sale through BB. Getting this for exactly 1/2 that price was one of the best bargains ever!

Awesome TV I just don't like Roku OS
By BillH
Honestly TCL did a lot better in the mini LED TV introduction then another company I won't mention >>(S.m.u.g)<< did and they're supposed to be #1. So I do want to congratulate TCL on caring more not just about the product but about the consumer. There not SMUG about it either. Honestly if TCL would get away from the crappy Roku OS I would happily own a TCL. But I absolutely completely dislike the Roku OS. But their picture quality for Mini LED is rivaled by nobody so far And what you get for what you pay is incredible. I got a TCL for my grandmother which suits her just fine.. if PCL ever does get away from Roku I'll be jumping on board

Don't like the OS? Really?
August 10, 2022
If this is your only complaint, that you don't like Roku, get something else like a Firestick and run that. You're not limited to Roku. I'm in total agreement that the picture and tv is pretty much brilliant. But I don't use Roku either. If you don't like Roku or Amazon's OS, then get an Android streaming device from the big store chain. You have a lot of different options.

Update to my previous 5 star review
February 21, 2023
It's now been 2.5 yrs that I've owned this 8 series tv from TCL. It looks as good today as it did when I bought it in 2020. This tv gets used hard! It's probably on about 12-14 hrs every day when I'm home. Not a single issue. Still amazing and stunningly bright. Colors are perfect and the fact I got this model for a discount and I'm counting my lucky stars. The BB salesman tried to talk me into a Sammy but I wouldn't budge and I'm still happy with this purchase. I turn it on in the morning when I get up. I do a lot of remote work so its on all day and don't turn it off until I go to bed. Many days will see 16-17 hrs of continuous use. The was one of the first, if not the first, that used mini-leds and they are awesome. Too bad they don't sell this model anymore as they got it right. It simply needed a few minor things like HDMI 2.1 and 120 refresh rate at 4k to be almost perfect. Off my soapbox.

Probably my final update on this beloved TCL
November 1, 2024
I add comments to my original post as Best Buy won't allow you to edit your previous ones. I'm still in love with this TCL 8 series. Have owned it now for 4 yrs and 3 months. It survived a 1200 mile move and still has the most amazing picture and brightness. I still have that WOW feeling every time I turn it on. Constantly think to myself how amazing the picture quality is when I'm watching. Since BB doesn't sell this anymore, these updates do don't anything except help me pat myself on the back for making a good purchase. But it was a great TV from day one and it's still going strong. Hope I get many many more years out of it. It was absolutely a great buy.
