Nice notebook

Nice notebook. I usually buy dells. But the sale price on this one was compelling. The screen is a notch better than the dell with the same processor. The camera privacy slider is a great idea. Plus the backlit keyboard. All those are a notch up from the dell.
But the drive did go into a recover sector mode. I’ve only had it for 3 days. So that is a concern.
Then when I registered it, Lenovo says the warranty is only until September. I bought it in December. I have never needed a warranty on a notebook. For what it’s worth, the HD drive companies don’t provide their normal warranty on an OEM. I got bit by that once.
The battery life seems a bit less than a dell. But it charges faster. The power supplies are a different rating.

I bought this laptop for my sister since she's starting college in fall semester. We were looking for something with decent specs and would last her for at least 4 years. For a sale value of $399 ($200 off from an original price of $599) with an Intel core i5 processor, 8GB RAM, and a 256 GB SSD it seems like a steal! And within about roughly 20 minutes of unboxing and messing around with the laptop we quickly returned it to the store and bought a different laptop. This product was not on display at Best Buy, if it was I don't think we would have bought it.
Let me break it down, this laptop was probably never originally at $599. The biggest con for me was the built material. For $399 I wasn't expecting something spectacular, but I expected something made from better quality plastics especially since it was originally $599. The overall plastic felt cheap and remind me of a laptop I bought years ago that started cracking at about a year and half of owning it. The touchpad is not good, and the speakers are terrible. Usually laptop speakers are layout on top of the keyboard near the hinges, but these were at the bottom. With speakers on the bottom everything kind of sound muffled.
Anyways I gave 2 stars since Best Buy service is good, we bought this on Black Friday at doorbusters time, so it was a lot of waiting in line. However, the Best Buy we went to seem know how to handle Black Friday shoppers well so kudos to them! But I wish they put this laptop on display, so we didn't have to waste time unboxing and returning it.
I don't recommend buying this. Save your money, spend an extra $100 or $200 and buy another laptop with similar specs made from better quality materials. It's 2018 (almost 2019) laptops are getting better and cheaper, $399 is too much for a laptop with poor built quality. I'm also a picky person, and some people on here seem to like this product so you can go try this out and return it if you don't like it.
P.S. If you're curious, my sister and I end up buying the HP x360 2 in 1 instead. I have an older model of this HP for almost 2 years now and it works and is built well.

Alright-- this was a Thanksgiving gift from my wife. It looked like a good deal and the specs are ok for the price. The keyboard can be better. The lack of simple light indicators stump me. How much did they save? However, the biggest problem is that it keeps saying that my copy of Window 10 is not genuine and when I go to the settings, it says the product key is not valid. I am a Prof and am quite tech savvy and can solve this problem but I fear for someone who just does not want to jump through so many hoops on a new product. I mean this is a NEW product. This is simply not on. This is my 5th Dell computer and I am very disappointed at the lack of common sense displayed here. I am copying below the address where anyone facing the same problem needs to go. You need to update the software directly. It should work with the particular error code associated with this idiocy.

Just click troubleshoot and it will activate. You don;t need to be a professor for that. This is the best laptop I've ever had.

I bough this few days back when it was on Black Friday pre-sale.
I have done a good research before finalizing this deal, You wont find equal or better configuration for this same price of $399.
Getting 7th Gen i5 processor with 8GB Ram and 256GB SSD is very rare.

No 5Ghz Wifi- They should have added that.

upgrade wi-fi?

I wonder if there is an update for this. I bought two of these and a 2-in-1. The 2-in-1 is a -5 gen 8. The wi-fi card in that one screams. 2x as fast as this one on the same network. Somehow faster than my rated speed. I get 75 on the 2-in-1. About 40 on this one.
