why stainless steel when regular rubber good

my old machine lasted 20 years with rubber hoses - the new machine probably 10-12 and for this we need steel hoses?
Anyway a $600 machine justifies $30 hoses instead of $18 rubber.

disconnected the old hoses and cleaned up under the old machine before the installers showed up - installation very fast - these people do a few like these every day - installer took a few minutes and did a demo on the machine answering all my questions.

only four stars because reliability not known yet- otherwise good modern machine - quite simple to operate - my wife (5ft8 tall) has a hard time reaching the bottom of the machine after the wash. will need a small step, but this is minor.
