Behold a gem

Great game. Good story, satisfying combat, & aesthetically pleasing, this game will scratch that itch of needing something different to play. The combat can be a bit sketchy at times. Sometimes you're spoon fed parry oppurtunites with wide windows that give you ample time to react but It can also feel laggy or unresponsive leaving me desperately tapping buttons trying to defend myself. However, if you can work with it and be patient, it is really fun because after all I still took the time to beat it. I will say $40 is a bit much for this style of game seeing that it only takes around 4-6 hours to beat.

Not a game you'll regret

Taking inspiration from 70's psycological horror films, this game is a hidden gem. From the creepy aesthetics, to the trippy score, the familiar yet fresh take on combat & semi-open exploration, not to mention the supernaturally omnious plot dealing with pagan rituals & the occult. I clocked 10 hours on my first play thru. Not the longest game but made with multiple play throughs in mind it is definitely worth a shot.

Fun for a while but after drifting into traffic and running from cops more than actual racing enough times it gets very old. The day/night system is just dumb. You have to plan ahead with your cars because there is no going to and fro the garage to upgrade without progressing the week and losing time & money. With that said, I did get in about 40 hours before realizing I was tired of it.

From Bluepoint Games comes a remake of the PlayStation classic, Demon's Souls. Entirely rebuilt from the ground up and masterfully enhanced, this remake introduces the horrors of a fog-laden, dark fantasy land to a whole new generation of gamers. Those who have faced its trials and tribulations before can once again challenge the darkness in amazing visual quality and performance. In his quest for power, the 12th king of Boletaria, King Allant channeled the ancient Soul Arts, awakening a demon from the dawn of time itself, The Old One. With the summoning of The Old One, a colorless fog swept across the land, unleashing nightmarish creatures that hungered for human souls. Those whose souls were stripped from them, lost their minds - left only with the desire to attack the sane that remained. Now Boletaria is cut off from the outside world, and the knights who dare penetrate the deep fog to free the land from its plight are never seen again. As a lone warrior who has braved the baneful fog, you must face the hardest of challenges to earn the title Slayer of Demons and send The Old One back to its slumber.

Hard to love

Really pretty game. The movement and combat are super smooth & satisfying. But the level & boss designs ruin it for me. Too many narrow corridors to accidently fall from the edge of i.e. staircases or scaffolding. I actually got ambushed before I could fully descend a latter. Farming xp seems fruitless as upgrades barely make a difference. As a soulslike fan this isn't for me.

Draw your blade and join the revolution. In 1860s Japan, a low-ranking samurai by the name of Sakamoto Ryoma is disappointed with the longstanding shogunate reign. Foreign guns have arrived on Japanese shores, widespread poverty plagues the common folk, and the era is ripe for a revolution. After Ryoma~s adoptive father is assassinated for leading a revolutionary group, Ryoma vows vengeance, seeking nothing less than to bring an end to the samurai era. In a twist of fate, Ryoma sets out to bring down the shogunate by infiltrating it from within. He joins the Shinsengumi, an elite force of samurai warriors, to hunt down his father~s murderer. But Ryoma is not the only one with an agenda, and he is drawn further into the operations of shogunate rule the more he pursues his cause. Go wild with four gun and sword combat styles. Take samurai combat to the next level with a revolver in one hand and sword in the other. The Wild Dancer style allows you to nimbly wield both and quell any threat. Alternatively, you may focus on one deadly weapon, slashing through foes with your lethal blade using the Swordsman style or sharpshooting your enemies with the Gunman style. And if you~re feeling extra brutal, smash some skulls with your bare fists using the Brawler style. But that~s not all. It wouldn~t be an RGG Studio title without epicly absurd heat actions. Summon a tiger to maul your foes, shove pickled plums down your enemies~ throats, and wield a cannon to blow down opponents. The heat actions in Ishin! will leave you itching to uncover new moves at every stage of the game. A historical epic featuring a star studded cast. Like a Dragon: Ishin! brings in familiar faces to tell its epic historical tale. Fans will recognize the protagonist as Kazuma Kiryu from earlier entries in the franchise. In Ishin!, Kiryu is cast as Sakamoto Ryoma and brings the rest of his crew along too. Goro Majima and other Yakuza celebrities join Ryoma as friends and foes in this fictional world that trades the flashy streets of Tokyo for the chaotic bustle of 1860s Kyo. These new character dynamics are as thrilling as they are unexpected, with a series of mind-blowing twists and turns in a story only RGG studio can tell.

Kinda torn. Alot like this game. It's as if it is confused. You have this gritty, intense story. Violent and bloody, it really pulls you in. Then you get to the free roam part. Quirky, goofy, & silly to a fault. Which isn't all bad cause it is interesting but it's, 'safe'. It goes from dark & mature to... Nick at night. The combat is a lot smoother but lacking from the likes of Judgment or Yakuza. It does, however, almost give me that samurai hack-n-slash feeling I always wanted--until the move list gets exhausted, dangerously fast. I'm only about 10-11 hours in and already kind of bored with the antics and combat outside of the main story. Sometimes you get harassed every 10ft by bandits or punks. Then there is the 50/50 voice acting. Main parts are voiced but out in the city its all dialogue boxes surrounded by lively surroundings. Its awkward. It really feels like this game, the 2023 game, could have been a ps3 release aside from the graphics, which are beautiful.

A remake for aspiring remakes to look up to

If you played the og, you are in for a real treat. I almost wish I never did just so I could experience this for the first time all over again. Beautiful yet grotesque graphics, enhanced controls, sounds, & combat, and an upgraded Ishimura. This time around you're free to wonder the cursed planet cracker in search of resources or secrets. Backtrack as you progress to complete newly implemented side quests for backstory & lore. Jump scares around every corner help cement this game as a memorable nightmare.

Elden Ring: 10/10? too generous.

Kudos to Best Buy, I got it when they said I would - in one day nonetheless! As far as Elden Ring.. Eh, its ok. Its literally DS in an open world. Same ol drabby mechanics(except you can jump and ride a horse now) & aesthetic. They threw in a random samurai class for some reason that feels so out of place. Bottom line, if you liked Demon/Dark Souls you will like this. Imo tho, 10/10 is too generous.

Japanese director Hiroshi Inagaki created his Samurai Trilogy of motion pictures between 1954 and 1956. Adapted from Musashi - an Eiji Yoshikawa novel regarded as Japan's equivalent to Gone with the Wind - the three features chronicle the life story of the legendary Musashi Miyamoto, a swordsman, writer and artist. Inagaki dramatizes his transition from wild, undisciplined young man to wise and noble warrior. The installments include: Samurai I: Musashi Miyamoto (1954), Samurai II: Duel at Ichijoji Temple (1955), and Samurai III: Duel at Ganryu Island (1956).

Ive been on the classic samurai movie train for only a little while but so far this collection of movies is absolutely awesome. People say Seven Samurai is the best; I disagree in loo of these movies. These movies keep a slow pace but are able to keep the attention of people watching chambara for the action. I definetly did not get bored waiting for something to happen. This collection is worth the buy and the time put in to enjoy this wonderful chambara trilogy. Each movie hinges on the last to make a memorable series. Gor for it!
