A little expensive but worth it

When my iMac finally aged out of usefulness I decided that rather than getting a new one (which is smaller-why smaller Apple? Grumble grumble…) I would get a Mac mini and spend a chunk of $ on a new large monitor. I am dealing with zoom classes and scientific data, spreadsheets and other such programs and find I need more screen real estate than ever before. This is more than enough room for everything I need to view at once.
The fact that I can also hook other things up to this monitor really let me shift my entertainment habits as well. I already had a PS5 but decided, I am going to invest in physical media. I am over having multiple streaming services. So I ordered the LG - UBK80 - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Player to use with the monitor and couldn’t be happier. I am growing my blu-ray collection, and picking up new and old CDs (thrifting old CDs & Blu-ray’s or DVDs is a new favorite pastime) and feel oddly freed?
I do want to be clear that I’m not a graphic artist, or animator, and I’m just happy to have a large screen with good resolution for my needs. Basically I found a multifunctional screen that works as a computer monitor, video game display, and movie screen in my average sized office space (i.e. my spare room) and it’s perfect for me.

Classic for a reason

Great picture and sound on the 4K
The special features are very good. I love that they included the documentary that was on the laserdisc collection. It was both interesting and then a fascinating contrast to see the more recent interviews. The 2005,doc is historically interesting even strictly from the perspective of seeing which directors the invited to speak about Jaws’ influence (I had to loom a couple up ha! Relevant at that moment but maybe not long term)
But of course as noted at the beginning, the film looks great. Definitely holds up & I’m happy to have it in my library!

The first is a classic, the other two are either over- or under-rated, depending on which circles you travel in. But all are worth having in this format.
The extras are very good (though I flinch every. single. time. someone says “the boys” or “the brothers” but that is their history, and how they identified at the time…). I had a general idea of the technical work and expertise that went into these films, but now I have a greater respect for the work that went into it. The dual commentaries are interesting to listen to, with the completely different perspectives (it is sometimes irritating when they just stop talking and watch the movie). All in all a worthwhile addition to my library.

Great movie, ok transfer

Happy to be able to find this on Blu-ray. It is a weird movie I loved as a kid, and I can’t tell now if it’s really good or really bad because of the nostalgia factor… regardless, I still love it.
That being said, this is a bare bones release. Pretty sure it is not a new transfer, and there are zero extras, which is a shame. So, 5 stars movie availability, 3 stars picture and audio quality, 0 star extras… guess it’s overall 3?

Great for those both Blu-ray/4K and old DVDs

This is a great player for 4K, Blu-ray, and regular old DVDs.
I wanted to have the option of a single player that would not only play Blu-ray but also the DVDs that I already own and don’t see the need to update (tv series for example). The picture quality of my old DVDs is surprisingly good on my LG 43" UltraFine 4K UHD Monitor (I use the monitor with my Mac mini for work, as well as for entertainment).
I’m opposed to smart tvs and Blu-Ray players, so for me the lack of smart feature and internet streaming is a plus. I use my computer for any streaming I may wish to utilize. So if you need an all in one, this will not be the best option for you. But if like me you like to have more control over your data, this is perfect.

Great storage solution

I prefer Blu-ray/4K to streaming services for the extras and the picture quality. This modular storage is perfect for organizing my collection in a small space. It is wall mountable but for now I just have stacked on my bookshelf. This is the 5th unit we have purchased.
Keep in mind this is disc storage only - if you are wanting to keep cover art or booklets, you will need to store them separately or look for a different storage option.
