HDR Optimizer!? nice....

As the title indicates, this is where the player shines along with amazing imaging processor. You can mess with contrast, brightness, white and black tone curves to get the HDR just right on your tv. The Tone Mapping on this thing is probably better than on most tvs. But there is some serious trail and error with this.
The Bluray 1080p to 4k upscaling is awesome. I have not messed with any Apps yet except constantly going to Netflix by accident. Having said that, I will say that I do hate the big Netflix button on the remote. It sits above and very close to the tiny up button. So if you're scrolling through menus you will eventually hit that stupid button! Idk why they did that.
It does have Dolby Vision from the update a while back. The only option is to turn it on or off from the Setup menu. You can't switch it on the fly between this and HDR as far as I know by remote. From what I see, you have to stop the the movie, go into the menu and turn it off for HDR. And there is no option to adjust Dolby Vision settings like you can with SDR and HDR

if you love 80's nostalgia then you'll love this. But it isn't just 80's though. Spielberg did his best to get anything movie and game related from the last 20 years in here too.
4k transfer is just simply gorgeous, especially when they're in Oasis. The image is cleaner than a usual Spielberg film which was shocking since he loves grain. The HDR is really really good. Nothing too overly bright that makes you close your eyes. Dolby Vision in my opinion was almost the same. Highlights might have been a little higher but I couldn't tell.

Does this player switch automatically to Dolby Vision when a movie contains that format? Or do you have manually switch to that like the Sony 700?
Yes. It does automatically play the movie in Dolby Vision if the movie supports it, as long as you have DV set to "ON" in the player setup menu. You can not switch between HDR and DV on the fly when watching a movie which stinks. DV takes priority over HDR on the player. You don't have to go into the menu to switch itto "OFF" if you're playing a non DV disc.

I am wanting to get a stand alone 4k player and saw this model and the DP-UB900, what are the main differences between this and the 900? Is it better to buy the 900 over the 820 or vice versa? Thanks in advance.
